I stood up and stretched my arms upward before closing my laptop and inserting a bookmark on the last page that I finished highlighting. I was feeling sleepy—yet I couldn’t even sleep when I tried. It was probably because it’s still too early since I usually sleep at midnight (yes, it’s unhealthy, but no, I can’t change my body clock). I’ve been used to sleeping during midnight ever since I took up Psych—I had a lot to study and I had to maintain my grade so I won’t lose my scholarship.

Alana then rested her head on Leo's shoulder and looked at the book on Leo's lap. "What are you reading?" Alana asked, then looked at the cover of the book in front of her. Then, she let out a rough breath. "Why do you always read heavy books like this before going to sleep?" Alana asked, making Leo snatch the book back. "What's wrong with that?" Leo asked. "Aren't you afraid of getting insomnia reading books like this?" Alana asked, glancing at the thick book about business and its intricacies. "I actually can't sleep without reading this book," Leo replied, refocusing on the book in front of him. Alana then leaned her head back, reading the words that made her head slightly throb.

Ben nodded. "If what we have read is true, they will sleep for three moons. " Ben said. He slid a book across the table as we all took a seat. It was a black leather book with veins on it. The title of the book read, "Book of Alacai" in bright red. I could smell the blood from the letters. "What is this?" I asked, looking up at Ben. " I asked dad to bring it.", Jordan said, taking the book away from me.

“Aren’t you going to sleep yet?” Calvin leaned against the pillow, patting the edge of the bed. “Sit down first. Stay with me and read for a while.” What the hell was he reading? Did he even have time for that? Adriana looked at the cover. It was an English edition of And Then There Were None. Was he afraid his dreams wouldn’t be scary enough? “Reading such a mind-bending book before bed will disturb your sleep and give you nightmares.” Calvin had casually pulled the book off the shelf, only to find it was a British detective novel. But he didn’t feel like looking for another one, so he simply started reading. “Compared to insomnia, having nightmares is actually a good thing.”

Time for "old faithful." I pulled out some scriptures Ruthie, my best friend, gave me. I had a bookmark in Genesis Four. That's where I'd stopped the last time I needed help falling asleep. Yes, I was a scripture-reading teenager. However, my motivation wasn't to get all spiritual - it was to get so bored, I would fall asleep. It was a tip from Ruthie - whose parents were super righteous. Ruthie called the scriptures her insomnia cure - a biblical miracle! Ha! Fortunately, it worked for me, too. I cracked the book open to Genesis Four.

Sleep. But I can't. “What’s that?” I ask. She doesn’t look up. “A book.” “What’s it about?” “Aliens that disguise themselves as furniture to observe human mating patterns.” “Why would they want to do that?” She glances at me. “Aren’t you aware that humans have the best sex amongst species?” “Hm.” I rest an arm behind my head. “I wonder what kind of furniture they pretend to be. Chairs? Dressers?”

This way I don’t have to carry books everywhere, but I always have something readily available. The books I keep by my bed are ones that I want to read, but can sometimes be a bit slow in parts, so they help me fall asleep. I’m currently reading “Les Misérables” by Victor Hugo. It’s an amazing book, but some of the details can be a bit much. I’ve always preferred fiction, but some parts of Les Mis read more like a history textbook, perfect for those nights I need help falling asleep.

I kept thinking about it even though I know I'm going to ace it regardless of what happens because I've been reading my books a lot. The sleep seemed to want to take over my body and there's nowhere for me to park the car and sleep because nearly everywhere on the road are forests and I wouldn't want to stop on the road and sleep especially when I know there are people whose jobs are to harm people on the road. I decided to wait until I get to where there are a lot of residential houses before parking and sleeping for a while. I don't know why I'm feeling sleepy suddenly when I do not, normally. If I was sleepy, I'd have felt it before leaving the house and I'd have slept, I don't understand

“It will be a while, but it will pass. Yer going to meet someone who will change the course of yer life.” “I’d be more impressed if you could help me sleep.” Camille teased. “Yeh don’t sleep?” She shook her head. “I have chronic insomnia. I can’t take medication and was told to read something boring.” She scoffed and motioned to the large collection of books. “Of course, I’m the weirdo that finds encyclopedias interesting.” “I speak to the dead. Yer not the only weirdo around.” “I have a book about that.” Camille marked her place in her book with her bookmark and sat it aside as she stood up.

“His mom let me use her computer as I had to send some urgent email. By accident, some files fell from the desks. As I was trying to put it back, I noticed some of them concerning Julian. My curiosity took over…” “Your inquisitiveness rather.” She was guilty, so she just nodded. “You know me. When I saw some of the documents I understood why they warned me.” “You know the truth, so you must be careful.” “I am. I don’t worry about him.” “So why are you not sleeping?” With this, he sat down in front of her. “I can’t…” “Sleep is essential for life and the proper course of mental processes, so you must sleep. Besides, a sleepless night will lower your psychophysical efficiency tomorrow at work.”
