Aurora’s P.O.V I lay there, wide awake, staring at the ceiling. It felt like I hadn't slept in days, but every time I tried to close my eyes, my mind refused to rest. The exhaustion was pulling at me, but it was like I couldn't surrender to it. The small clock on the bedside table ticked away in the silence of the night, each second reminding me of how much I needed sleep. But the minutes stretched on, dragging me deeper into an anxious state, as if the night itself was refusing to let me go.

“And so am I. I’m going to bed. Sleep tight, guys.” They murmur their goodnights as I swing my velvet curtain shut and flop onto my bed in despair, burying my face into my pillow. “Whoa,” I hear Jesse’s voice say out in the room as the bathroom door creeks open. “Where did everyone go?” Predictably, it takes me forever to fall asleep, not least because Jesse, Ben, and Rafe stay up for a while, talking softly. I get changed into the pajamas that Daphne thoughtfully packed into my uniform box and re-braid my hair once it’s dry, but it’s the Chemistry book, in the end, which really does the trick.

The next couple of hours should be a breeze. He was always semi-fascinated with the idea of a secular body that needs periods of rest to recharge. The idea of wasting hours upon hours of the day sleeping just seems strange for a being the Lord created an entire planet for. Watching the girl sleep, he realizes that he has all the time in the world to study it now. The Almighty has a sick sense of humor sometimes.

Getting to see my parents and my sister for the last time really made me realize how much I didn't hate them but rather made peace with how my life was meant to be. I went back into my room to find it empty because I gave Sean to Nina to take care. I settled down in my room and looked at the clock next to my bedside. It was already six in the evening. That was how fast time flies. I don’t know if I should stay awake the whole night until I die or sleep. Maybe I should stay awake tonight, so I did. I stayed awake the whole night.1
