I should be excited that I wasn't part timing anymore, and have landed a real job at the most prestigious university in the country. "Everyone line up!" I snapped back as the team scrambles into something that's supposed to be a line. My skates hit the ice, my legs remembering what to do even after all these years, and I stand there with the speech I've rehearsed a hundred times ready to go. I open my mouth to speak. But someone breaks off from the group. Skates straight toward me with a smirk already on his face like he owns the whole rink, and my stomach drops out from under me before I even register why.

My heart tightens. This used to be home. I lace my skates with shaking hands. Not fear. Determination. If I get another chance, I won’t waste it. I step onto the ice. The moment the blades touch, something inside me wakes up. The cold air burns my lungs, my muscles protest from months of stress and inactivity, but I push through. I skate. Hard. Fast. Powerful strides, cutting across the ice, turning sharply, stopping violently, sending ice spraying.

I mostly listened, trying to figure out the group dynamics while struggling with skates that seemed determined to cut off circulation to my feet. Ice skating wasn't exactly my favorite activity. I'd only done it once before at a friend's birthday party, and that had ended with me sprawled on the ice like a fallen Christmas tree. But I strapped on the torture devices they called skates and tried to look like I wasn't planning to spend the entire time death-gripping the wall.

He got me male skates rather than female, he said female skates are better for figure skaters, but male skates are better for sports, which neither made sense to me I wasn’t aspiring to be either. “Don’t look so nervous, no one is here so if you fall, just stand back up and try again.” He kept trying to give me pep talks while he laced up my skates, but it didn’t make me feel any better. It wasn’t falling and embarrassing myself that I was concerned with, it was hitting the ice and breaking my tailbone or a leg.

Just asking. I thought about the ice. The way skating had always been one of the few things that felt like mine. Fast decisions, body moving before your brain caught up, no pack politics attached. I’d been on skates since I was four. The ice was one of the only places I didn’t have to manage anything. “Yeah,” I said. “I’m going back. Not for the captain title or whatever. Just because I want to play.” I shrugged. “The title’s whatever. Playing is what matters.”

“Start with both feet pointing forward, then slightly turn the right foot out to create a 45-degree angle. This will be your pushing foot. Keep your weight centered directly over the skates.” Adira stopped. She turned around and looked at the guy who’s supporting her back. “You talked as if it is so easy to skate,” she complained. “It is easy for me,” he replied with a smirk. “A baby can’t learn how to walk at the day she was born,” she rebuked. “That’s why I am confused. Why did you agree on skating if you don’t know how?” Gliding forward, Adira answered him, “Because I heard that my husband was once a hockey player.”

Or else I am doom. After getting ready.. I went for ice skating... Dad didn't came.. This time we didn't force him.. Because he is not good at skating... Me and Elina went inside.. First we both skating by holding our hands.. Later she left my hand.. And we were skating in our own way... While Skating I saw Jack Wilson again.. He was teaching one small kid... May be that kid is four or five years.. He saw me and said something to that kid.. Then they both came towards me...

I muttered, stepping onto the ice. The cold wind bit my face as I launched into a sprint, my skates cutting deep into the surface. I needed the speed. I needed the pressure. But as I ran the drills, my mind kept drifting back to the her…

He continued writing… putting all his focus to the professor. By evening, the air had cooled, putting him at ease a bit. The rink lights cut through the dark surroundings, glowing bright against the ice as Lukas stepped inside. The familiar chill wrapped around him instantly, grounding him in a way nothing else was. This was where everything made sense… where he made sense, this was his promise. The moment his skates hit the ice, something in him settled. He moved smoothly, effortlessly, slicing through the surface with practiced ease. He was fast and controlled. Every turn, every shift of weight was perfect… just like he presented himself to be. Utter perfection.
