I was already down below with coffee in my hand and my plans tightening in the mind like some knots as I then paced around the kitchen in silence. It was another slow morning on the farm they’d be thinking. However, I had a different type of day in mind for me. I turned on some music that was something loud and also something upbeat as I set out some breakfast. It felt like I was hosting during a holiday brunch. Fruit and pancakes were served then. Also there were some freshly ground beans for all. I ensured that the smell filled every corner. When they come down, let them be happy. Allow for them to falsely believe that they are victorious.

They stood there for a while, just breathing, holding onto the quiet together. Later that morning, Emma walked through the sunroom, clipboard in hand. If she was going to host brunch for the whole family, it had to be perfect—simple, but thoughtful. She wanted fresh flowers. Scones. A frittata, maybe. Orange juice in glass pitchers and sunlight pouring through the tall windows. He is carrying a big tray in his hands and he brings it towards the bed. “Good morning, Beautiful,” he tells me as he kisses me on my forehead. “I woke up earlier than you and I did not want to wake you up. So, I took a shower, got dressed, and went down to get our breakfast from Marcel. I guess you got up not long ago?” he continues. “I woke up and I was wondering where you disappeared to. I took a shower and go dressed, then decided to wait for you to come back. I had just gotten back on the bed, when you walked in. So what is for breakfast?” I ask him. He removes the cover of the try and I see two plates of scrambled eggs, toast, bacon, sausages, sandwiches and a pancake each. I smile at

We are having breakfast, though it is technically brunch as we both woke up late, the spiral bound paper placed in the middle of the dinning table. My pulse falters and my mouth goes dry, I stall by taking a drink of my iced cold water. Stephane made us toasts, eggs, bacon, baked beans, sausages, it is a full spread. And I am halfway through devouring everything. I woke up starving.
