The entire living area was filled with the homey scent of pastries, tea, and the big brunch spread that was on the dining table. I wandered off to the dinning to see a spread containing pancakes, croissants, toasts on one large tray. Another tray had scrambled eggs, sausages and cans and baked beans in a white dish. There was a fruit platter, different juices, a charcuterie board and Mac and cheese. A big cake that had- "welcome home, Bella." Was also right in the center of our small table. Everything looked so good and everyone looked so excited that it warmed my heart a little.

** I tap my fingers impatiently against the table top, watching restaurant goers enjoy their mimosas and laugh over their egg toasts. Brunch seemed like a reasonable time for Claire to meet me. Not for dinner or lunch or even breakfast, but brunch. That was the only time she'd agree to. She also set the place for our meeting—The Edenborough in Beverly Hills. The weekend came faster than I expected. By Saturday afternoon, the mansion was alive with noise and energy.
