“This is… completely insane.”
“Not what you expected?” he finishes for me, half-smiling, half-bracing himself for the joke.
“Not remotely,” I admit, walking into the surprising sanctuary. “I expected weapons, maps, and overflowing laundry hampers, not… a children’s retreat.”
He shrugs, the movement burdened by the truth. “My head’s not a friendly place, Liv. The voices, the darkness—they’re constant chaos. So I try desperately to keep my environment as friendly, bright, and simple as possible. It’s my bubble against the end.”
