Books Like Great Gatsby Novels & Stories

Who would have guessed he reads. My curiosity gets the better of me and matches it. The first book I spot one hundred years of solitude. I haven't read it so I decide to move to the next, The Great Gatsby. Am familiar with it so I pick it off the shelf and sit on his bed. The book is dusty like it hasn't been read in a while. Am so absorbed in it until someone snatches it away from me. "Get out!" I look up. Quinn is staring at me super mad.

I have a class to attend, he is in detention, his punishment can’t get any worse than that but mine can. Hurrying to the literature section, I pick out the first copy of The Great Gatsby I find on the rows of shelves with first edition novels. A crumpled note falls out as I am about to tuck it into my bag, I look around to see if anyone is here but there’s no one within walking distance. I open the note and frown. It is a letter. A handwritten letter.

***ESTHER*** I sit in the chair in the garden in front of the university. Honestly, I don’t know what do I want from Caden. I hate him coming nearer to me. It makes me feel like he is going to read everything that I have been hiding from everyone but the uninteresting fact is that I hate him when I told him to stay completely away from me. What does my heart want actually? I unpack my bag and take out a book from my bag. It’s THE GREAT GATSBY. I have read this book several times and every time, I read this book, my heart cries for Jay Gatsby. But I don’t think I can do that anymore.

“Missed you too, what you up to?” “Nothing much, reading” I grinned, giving him a peck on the nose. “What you reading?” Felix asked as we headed inside. “That book for English Studies. Thought it’s about time I greet Jay Gatsby” I smiled, heading towards the couch. “Should probably start reading it as well” Felix sighed, “But will probably just watch the movie in the end” he said, making me flinch. Being one of those anti-movie people when it came to books, it kind of hurt that Felix wasn’t like that.

It is better to prevent that fr happening. Since I am the only one left in the house, I just read some books from the library. Yeah, you heard that right. Library. Miss Fatima is a bibliophile. My dad wants her to be happy so dad built a libraru inside this house. Miss Fatima said that they bought over a thousand books. "Hmm. What will I read?" I asked myself. At last, I get The Great Gatsby. I remember, when I was still a child, Rhea forces me to read this book instead of reading children's book. She said the children's book are just for brainless who will not succeed in life.

Though I was sure that I could pull it off just as I'd always done from the beginning, why reject such an opportunity because of my petty feelings? I smiled at Esther, "Probably because I like to be surrounded by people like me… I guess. So, we're going to bond over a nice novel today. What about the great Gatsby or…Wuthering heights? Trust me, they're really nice choices of books I picked from your library, and they might also teach us a thing or two about human emotions. I must say, you have taste, woman!" Esther scowled, rolling her wheel away to the table where several candles were placed. "I'd rather pluck my eyes out than read a book with you, Olivia."

He returned his attention to the bookshelf at the rear of his office, the one he’d been browsing when he’d first heard the strange sounds outside, only being made by the cats, after all. The top shelf held purely “literary works.” Poetry collections of Blake, Yeats, Robert Frost, and Shakespeare. Prose collections of Zora Neal Hurston, Hemingway, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Flannery O’Connor, and folktales collected by the Brothers Grimm. Novels, from The Man in the Iron Mask to Madame Bovary, to Villette and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, to A Passage to India by E. M. Forster.

**“Our project is on *The Great Gatsby* by F. Scott Fitzgerald.” Damien continued smoothly, **“It’s a story about ambition, love, and the consequences of chasing an unattainable dream.”** They alternated presenting, seamlessly covering the symbolism of the green light, the tragedy of Jay Gatsby’s obsession with Daisy, and the novel’s commentary on the American Dream. **“Gatsby represents longing for a perfect future while being trapped by his past,”** Elie’s explained. **“His love for Daisy blinded him to reality, leading to his downfall.”**

“Goodnight Aspen.” Aspen leaves with the book. It’ll be nice to have another friend. I don’t get to see Samantha much anymore so it’ll be nice to have Aspen around. He likes books like I do. I’ll have to make him a list to read while he is here. I scan the shelves and decide on to finally try The Great Gatsby. My teacher gave me a list of more advanced books to read that I would typically be reading when I reach high school. So far I’ve loved the books she recommended. The Giver was one of my favorites.

"Thanks. Got a book in mind?" "Yeah, 'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald," I say, and she points me to where it might be. "Just one left should be along that wall. Good luck." With that, she heads back to her desk. After about 10-15 minutes of searching, I finally spotted it on the fifth shelf. As I reach for the book on the fifth shelf, I find myself stretching on my tiptoes, struggling to grab it. But then, I start to tip backward, almost taking a tumble.
