I smiled, going back to reading, snuggling into Nate's arm as he begins to soothe my arm again.

Chapter 1 Lyra's POV I wrapped my legs tighter around his waist, pulling him closer against me. My body was on fire, every nerve ending screaming for more contact. I blushed and smoothed my coat, both of us laughing at the near accident. "You want some cocoa? I remember how good it was last time my mom brought me here," he offered, running a glove through his hair. I nodded, and he disappeared into the main building, weaving in and out of the growing crowd. I turned back to the lake, my breath frosting the air. The sun was starting to set, turning the fresh snow a golden red as it pulled the blanket of mountains up over its head. Below me on a second tier of the deck, a bonfire popped and crackled, the smoke rising gently into the deepening sky. I watched the dark tendrils of smoke fade into the oncoming twilight, feeling peaceful.

"What do you want to talk about?" He put down the book he was reading and eyed me, his eyes lingering on my hips as if checking if I were okay. Deep in those eyes, I could see something I couldn't make out. He cleared his throat, tearing his gaze away from me and returning it to the book on his lap. "I want to make a proposal, Carissa." He patted the space next to him. "Sit." I hesitated for a moment, then decided to oblige, taking a seat beside him on the vintage couch. The proximity was uncomfortably strange for me. Strange because it was making me hot especially what had just happened in my room. He'd seen everything!

His eyebrows knit together, and he shakes his head no, “You don’t need to fret over that, Elyria. Your smile is more than enough for me.” My cheeks burn from his kind words, especially as he says them in front of some of the closest people in his life. I grab one of the books out of the bag and say, “Well, Alpha, is it alright if I get to the office and to my reading?” I didn’t pay attention to what I was grabbing. As Atlas grabs the book and examines it, I realize what it is and regret the decision to grab a random book. It’s a romance book with a half-naked man on the cover, a girl in a skimpy dress, and a wolf in the background titled ‘Taming the Alpha. ’

I tucked them behind my ear and glanced at Tom. He leaned casually against the wall, the moonlight accentuating the sharp angles of his jaw. His messy black hair fell across his forehead, making him look even more irresistible. “Then tell me,” Tom coaxed, a teasing grin spreading across his face. “You can’t call me your boyfriend if you keep your sexual fantasies from me.” I inhaled deeply, my pulse quickening.
