“We were just reviewing the skeleton for the book festival. We have less than two weeks.”
“Oh,” I said, the single syllable trailing behind me. “Who's the guest speaker?” I asked hoping I'll get involved in the conversation.
“Linda Lively,” April answered. “We already spoke to the director about it.”
“We haven't settled on the venue,” Arian said, still not looking at me
“I tried again, hoping he would even listen to me. “Arian, can we use a…”
He cut me off, still scribbling. “This part of the discussion is for old members and the planning committee.” His words were calm, almost too calm, but the dismissal stung like spirit on a fresh wound.
