Instead of answering, he flips it open, his fingers smudged faintly with charcoal. The pages rustle as he turns to the one he’s looking for. And then, finally, he stops.
I blink.
Before me is a sketch of an ornate, antique-looking door, drawn with near obsessive detail. It’s massive, made of dark, weathered wood, with intricate carvings running down its frame like veins. Symbols—some familiar, some not—are etched into the grain, curling in elegant, swirling patterns that seem almost alive. Heavy, iron hinges stretch across its width, twisted into strange, interlocking shapes, their purpose unclear.
