"'Wait, let me check the ground very well and see if we can find her there,' she said and shifted her hand fully into the room. Then she started making her hand curve in a way that the touch could reach the ground, and she could see what was actually happening." "She did this for some time, got tired, then returned back to her previous position." "'I didn't see anything. Maybe we should try going into the house by ourselves so we could see what is truly going on with her,' she said to them." "Immediately, I started hearing some pushing sounds from my door. They had started pushing, but the door didn't open. They had forgotten that the door wasn't made of cheap wood." "A door made with wood f

look is popular. My closet creaks like a dying deer as I throw open the door, and I glare at the old metal hinges for a moment before stomping off to my kitchen for the WD-40. I oil up those bad boys and give the door a few test swings. I’ve been considering replacing the whole thing since the door’s a flimsy piece of shit with some warping on the bottom. Maybe Grady would let me borrow his truck for a trip to Home Depot. Not a problem for tonight though. Tonight, I’m on the prowl.

She stood at the threshold and looked. Her body understood before her mind finished collecting details. No mirror. No bell pull near the chair. No small table within easy reach. The windows were tall, but their locks were new. The curtains hung too perfectly, their hems stiff, as if chosen to imitate softness rather than create it. Daniel’s gaze moved over hinges, latch, windows, walls. Leah’s gaze stayed lower. Near the inside edge of the open door, where the latch entered the frame, the white paint had worn thin from use. Or perhaps it had never covered properly. A narrow line of old color showed there, hidden except when the door stood open.

Deanna and Grant are hot on my heels. I turn the final corner to see the damage amid a half dozen omegas working busily. Some notice and stop their work. Others are too invested. “Don’t let me bother you. I’m here to help.” I smile, receiving odd looks. I survey the damage and decide to help those who are cleaning up the inside. I see now that the doorframe was the primary victim of Brady’s rage. Most of the doorframe is still intact; only the areas that attach to joints are severely damaged. Almost all the furniture has been cleared out. I’m sure it was fragmented from all the fighting.

It was enough. Rowan moved away from the window. "The back of the cottage opens into thicker forest." Kael shook his head. "Too obvious." "So what's your plan?" Kael's eyes travelled around the room. They stopped at the old bookshelf. "Help me move it." Rowan frowned. "The bookshelf?" "Just push." The two men leaned against the heavy wood. It refused to move at first. Then it scraped across the floor with a deep groan. Behind it was a narrow wooden door.

No camera visible; the glass in the door’s square was too thick to break without noise. She went still, listening. Far off, boots on concrete. Closer, the faint hiss of air through the vent. The building breathed with them. The chair, then. She tipped it, levered her weight on the loose bar, and felt it give with a metallic gasp. She worked slowly, carefully, mindful of echoes, until the crossbar slid out—two and a half feet of hollow steel with sharp corners where weld had failed. She tested it against the cot frame. Solid. Against the door seam. Useless. Against the window bars… too short to reach from the floor. The high slit stared down at her like a thin, indifferent eye.

This time, when I checked, there were strange signs. I turned the door. It didn't close. The top-right corner of the cabinet frame was split open. The crack had eaten deep into the wood, twisting the entire frame. The door brushed against one side and then popped out, leaving a clear gap. The hinges were still intact, but nothing held them in alignment anymore. "Shit!" I stopped immediately and called out, "David. I need you." David, who was checking something on his computer, stood up immediately. He walked straight over to me.

It simply wasn’t in his nature. Ostensibly talking to Clare but really thinking aloud, he repeated some of the things he had noticed about the door earlier. “The pins for the hinges are on the outside, as well as the screws for the doorknob. That definitely doesn’t work in our favor. The door itself isn’t an exact fit for the frame, there’s a little bit of space all the way around. I think I can see some kind of slide lock or deadbolt.” “You’re right,” Clare said. “Whenever Big Daddy comes or goes, I hear him sliding the lock.”

AXEL’S POV: The door creaked slightly as I pushed it open, revealing a modest bathroom. I clicked the door shut behind me and leaned heavily against it despite the sting in my legs. My chest heaved as I exhaled, eyes darting over the bathroom's simple layout.

Kiara remarked as we walked towards the front door. “She just needs some TLC.” I smiled and turned the door handle. The door didn’t open due to the wood swelling at the bottom from the water, so I had to use force to get in. It flew open and broke away from the hinges as I pushed the door. With a loud crash, the door fell against the wooden floor. “Fuck.” I muttered, and Kiara burst into laughter.
