I help her lift it up, and that is when we see the book that is just sitting there in the sand. I hear Nova's breathing seize. “What's that?” She asks, her voice barely above a whisper. I look around one more time, making sure that we aren't being watched, as I pull the book out of the sand, dusting off the cover. There isn't a name. As I open the book and flip through the pages, they are slightly damp, with almost all the pages empty. I get to the middle, and that is when I see the first drop of ink in the book. The handwriting is more or less scribbling, but I can clearly read everything.

Each page looked like it had been soaked in shadows, the ink melding with the very fabric of the paper. “This,” Petra said with a flourish, “is the *Tome of Deeds*.” Her fingers slid delicately over the edges of the book as she opened it, revealing intricate sketches and cryptic writings that seemed alive with their own purpose. “Within these pages lies every secret about the world’s hidden side,” she continued, her voice dropping to a whisper as if the Darklord himself might hear.

The Pen of Beginnings rose into the air. It circled the notebook once... then rested gently upon its first page. Without touching it... golden letters appeared. Every choice creates another world. The moment the sentence was completed... one empty shelf trembled. A single book slowly appeared. Its cover shimmered with silver light. The title read: The First Line Adrian stared. Gold lettering had long since faded, but one sentence remained etched across the front: My secret thoughts. I couldn't see the Authors name though. Just the title. “Is that a diary?” I whispered. “Looks like it.” "Belonging to who?" I asked but Ingrid shook her head.

Finally, her eyes fell on the page. It was almost empty, expect for one line written in red ink at the right corner of the book. Again, her danger instincts screamed at her, but Alexa was stubborn, even to her own mind. She meant no harm, she told herself again, she just wanted control. She swallowed, then read, "As I claim dominion, let the darkness ignite, and may my will be done, no matter the cost, no matter the night." The second the last word fell off her lips, the book closed. She gasped, her eyes widening. Her back arched abnormally, a loud scream escaping her lips as her eyes closed tightly.

I said. I lifted the pen. Instead of writing new text, I drew a single, firm line straight through the paragraph. Ink—my ink—cut across the Game’s, black slashing through neat letters. The page shuddered. The entire book did. Its spine pulsed once in my hand like a living thing. On the line beneath, where the system had queued options for alternative “tragedy modes,” space opened. I wrote, in all caps: TO BE CONTINUED.

With black cards and serpent seals and a single line that says everything he won’t say out loud. I slip the card into my purse, slide the note back into the envelope. The elevator dings. Penthouse. No smirk. No satisfaction. Just silence—and the weight of understanding. Because Nathan Cross didn’t give me power to be kind. He gave it to see what I’d do with it. And now?
