The book looks scary. I have not read a single rule yet but I know I won't like what I see. The book is stained with blood and I wonder whose blood is that? Could it be someone they killed in the house? The thought makes me panic. My hands start to shake. I can't control it. And then the book falls to the ground with a loud thud.

We came back to the living room and kitchen where he twirled in the space. “Now! Jordy!” Basil snapped his fingers. “The books!” His assistant came forward, pulling out four different books, thick enormous books and basically slammed them down on the kitchen counter. Walking over, I peered at them. Basil came up behind me. “There is a book for bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms, living room and lounge, and outdoor spaces. Look and show me what jumps out at you.” I nodded. Sitting down, I opened up the bedroom book first. Flipping through the pages, I stopped about the fifteen pages in.

Matteo’s POV. It was well past midnight when I made my way back. The burden of the week hung heavy, a silent chain pulling me down with every move. The hallway lay in a heavy silence, the air thick and unmoving, interrupted only by the relentless ticking of the clock. The scent of home lingered in the air—leather, a whisper of pine, and something delicate, something I couldn’t quite place but recognized as hers.

I was adamant he had to be wrong. "Two weeks or not, this little one is ready to meet the world." He continued his exam, covered in what I now realized was amniotic fluid. "You're four centimeters dilated." He pulled off his rubber gloves, each one snapping at the end causing me to jump. "Are you guys still doing the home birth with Meegan?" Thank God, Annie was able to speak. I was in shock. "That's the plan." "I'll have the nurse call her. Annie, you need to get Melissa home. Has Meegan given you instructions?"

I was expecting him to appear with a massive book but what was in his hand could barely amount to 200 pages. He dumped the book on the counter. “There you go. Our policy states that every borrowed book must be returned in three days.”

As Tammy stood looking out the window from her bedroom - a serene oasis with plush furnishings, elegant decor and soothing colours screaming opulence and serenity - her heart pounded in her chest to see such a convoy trooping into her father's villa. She gripped the curtain by the window tightly, feeling her palms grow sweaty. In a frantic rush, Tammy went downstairs so she could see what was going on but the guests were in the study with her father and they spoke discreetly. She could hear a little of the conversation.
