It was too bright, all of them. My eyes burned. I squeezed them shut and still saw red through my lids.

The fairy lights we’d never bothered to take down still glowed delicate golden strands looped around the headboard, trailing along the windowsill and over the mirror, casting warm, flickering halos across the rumpled white sheets and our bare, tangled bodies. The building's silhouettes suddenly became the dark night sky and the lights from their windows suddenly were twinkling. "Isn't that beautiful?" I asked when I saw a broken stoplight, the red light was blinking and the green and yellow once didn't seem to work. I thought it was aesthetically pleasing, under the gloom of the night, along the empty streets and silently passing cars. The slow blinking of that stop light seemed to harmonize with the quietness of the evening. I looked at Edgar and he was frowning at the stop light. "Pretty much could cause traffic, goodness, that should be fixed," he said and I rolled my eyes at him.

Bright sunlight poured in through the window and washed over Carmen's face. The warmth of her skin slowly lured her from her deep sleep. Her eyelids parted only to slam shut, blocking her brilliant light. The 24 year old rose and propped herself up on one elbow. She slowly rubbed her eyes with her free hand. Squinting, she let her eyes get accustomed to the sunlight - the very bright sunlight. Too Bright! What time is it? She must have overslept. Cody must be late to school.

Everything went dark and she gave into the darkness. "Die bitch." Was the last thing she heard. Claire woke up as the sun was shining through the cabin windows. She stretched and turned to see Morgan asleep in a chair next to the bed. She carefully got out of bed. She was shocked to see Morgan actually sleeping. She never got to sleep. Careful not to make any noise she headed to the door of the cabin opening it. She found Gavin just on the other side. He looked tired. "Shh Morgan's actually sleeping." She whispered to him.

EMMELINE ⚪️♠️⚪️ The early morning light was soft and forgiving, streaming through the tall windows and painting the room in shades of pale gold. In this light, it was almost possible to pretend that the world outside wasn’t stained with blood and suspicion. It was just a quiet morning.
