“I remember that.” We walked over together. The lid was stiff but finally opened. Inside were old stuffed animals, toy soldiers, wooden trains, and puzzles. Cole picked up a toy airplane. “I broke this.” “I remember crying.” “You were dramatic.” I smiled. Then I noticed something underneath the toys. “Wait. Help me move these.” Together we lifted several boxes out of the chest. At the very bottom lay a thick leather book. Cole frowned. “What’s that?” I brushed away the dust. “There are initials.”

Intake records filled a nearby office, folders stacked in careful rows, half-finished identity files scattered across a desk as though someone had been interrupted mid-task and never returned to finish. Toys lay scattered across one playroom floor exactly where small hands had dropped them, a wooden train missing one wheel, a stuffed rabbit with one ear worn thin from years of being held too tightly. Alexander crouched beside a small shelf of picture books, running a finger along their spines without quite touching them. "My sister had a shelf like this," he said quietly, an unfamiliar softness entering his voice. "Same kind of books. I haven't thought about that in years."

He had crafted a three-year game of breaking bones and breaking hearts -- and in the end, the one whose pride was shattered, whose dignity was ground to dust, was himself. "Miss Holloway, it's cold out here. Please, get in the car." Pemberton held the door open for me with quiet deference. I pulled my gaze away. I didn't spare the dark shape at the end of the street another glance. I ducked into the warm, luxurious cabin. The door shut with a heavy thud. The black motorcade rolled over the fresh snow and carried on toward the gleaming heart of the city, leaving behind forever the legless beggar sobbing in the drifts.

"I loved dinosaurs! I had—I had toys. Didn't I? Little plastic ones?" "Yes. You had twelve of them. You named them all. The T-Rex was—was—" I couldn't remember. The name was gone. Lost to the fading. "Bitey," Albert said softly. "You named him Bitey. Because he kept biting your other toys."

She only let me down, once we're inside a room, it was just next to theirs, I walked in and my mouth fell open, it had a white crib with pink bedding, there was a giant table there too, a rocking chair, a bookshelf filled with random books, and the best part were the toys scattered around, this room is a dream come true. "EEEEEPPPP!!! Thank You, Thank you" I run hugging both my mommy and daddy happy. "You're welcome honey," mommy says. "Just keep it down" daddy adds and I nod still smiling wide.

"She's bringing her wife and twins they're around Macy's age." ****Okay this is where keeping track of things are going to be extremely hard. Each book is off a few years with each other. Phobos pipes in telling me of his doubts about my accomplishment of his exercise. Grinding my teeth I claw on it and adding pressure to it has a piece pop up from the page. I startle dropping the book to the grass floor, caught off guard. Peering in I see fur peeking from underneath the piece. Time is running out. Taking a small breath I slowly tear the piece from the book. It comes off easily as if it was meant to whilst uncovering a small picture of four baby wild hares sleeping in a basket. There weren't merely four hares but eight.
