I needed to get it out otherwise I wouldn't be able to show him how sorry I was. He was in the shower for a long time, but when I heard him shut it off, I tried as hard as I could to stop crying and pretend to be asleep when he walked out. He went straight to the closet and came back a few minutes later and slipped under the covers. I had my back turned towards him, and I had half expected him to roll over to my back and hold me like he always does. But tonight, he kept his back to me. This broke me in a whole new way, and I tried to hold in the sob, but I couldn't, and it broke free. I shoved the covers off of me and ran to the bathroom. I didn't want to do this in front of him.

The only stable thing in a land that had fed off my instability. “Valentina,” He murmured near my ear, his voice low, urging, trying to tether me to him instead of the haze. “Stay with me. Whatever it shows you— don’t let it take you again.” Again… The word hit something deep within me. Because the Veil wasn't just a spell. It was a scar. And suddenly… it cracked. Not in a dramatic explosion. More like glass sighing before it shatters. A ripple went across the air, soft as a breath, and then— everything froze.

Grateful for any small human sound that could exist beside the note. Elaine’s tablet chimed again. She looked down. “I have preliminary enhancement on the paper edge,” she said. “There are partially printed letters at the torn side.” Daniel turned. “From what kind of document?” “Inventory or storage list.” Elaine adjusted the image. “I can make out ‘bridal,’ possibly ‘veil,’ and a number.” Leah’s heart beat hard. Her body relaxed. “Olivia?” Anna whispered, calling her gently. At first, Anna didn't move. Her fingers trembled as they lingered over Olivia's cooling skin, still hoping for a blink . But Olivia's chest no longer rose. Her hands had slipped limp from Anna's grasp. A strangled sound escaped Anna's throat. “No….No… Please Olivia wake up”. She pressed her forehead against Olivia's still one,sobbing fervently as waves of grief crashed into her. She cried so hard that her vision blurred, the edge

And the crack heightens, as the wall shatters right in front of me, the sound deafening Like glass breaking across an entire world. The invisible veil splits open, tearing wide as a massive crack rips through the empty space in front of me. Light bursts through. A silver blinding light that made me tighten my eyes shut. Opening my eyes as the light reduces, I saw what was in front of me.

The pack gathers behind me, their fear and awe palpable. Selene stands at the center, her glow pure and radiant. Silas kneels beside her, his silver eyes blazing with grief. “Where’s Zara?” I demand, my voice breaking.
