You’re nothing to me!” My heart pounded as I stood frozen between them, torn between wanting to step in and knowing this was something they needed to work out. But as the tension mounted, it was clear that talking wasn’t going to resolve anything. This was going to end in bloodshed. He was the 17 year old son of the Knights leader, David. To say Decon and the rest of us had bad blood between us was an understatement. Decon went to the same school as Jaden and Zeke and was even in their class. His older brother, Len was a thorn in my side all through school and Decon was the same way to my two younger brothers. We were in their territory and it's weird for them to hear a man calling me an Alpha. "My apologies, may I know if you want him here, sir?" he asked. I scowled and let out a deep sigh, looked like I had no choice after all, "let him in," I commanded and he obeyed immediately, then after a few minutes, my brother came in from the front of the door, thumbs in his pockets, wearing a long mischievous smile and staring at me as he closed the door behind him using his feet, kicking it from behind him.

He confessed. The older brother stared. "You..." "I was afraid." The confession continued almost against his own will. "I thought you'd leave me with nothing." The room remained silent. I let the song fade naturally. "There." I smiled gently. "The truth is usually much simpler than the lies surrounding it." The brothers exchanged embarrassed looks before eventually agreeing to honor their father's actual wishes. By midday I had settled arguments involving stolen livestock, disputed trade contracts, damaged property, and one particularly dramatic disagreement over whether someone's prize hunting dog had intentionally frightened another wolf's chickens. A dead silence fell over the hall. The three brothers collapsed, utterly broken by the truth. Damien gripped his head, his body wracked with tremors.
