Panic flashed in his eyes, pure, unfiltered panic. “What the hell… are you okay?” I knelt beside him, reaching out to help, but the moment my fingers brushed his skin, he jerked violently and vomited more blood. I pulled back, but my eyes stayed locked on his. Something was wrong. I looked down at my hand, still resting on his arm, and noticed the skin beneath my fingers. His veins were turning black, dark lines spreading out like cracks in glass. They kept moving, snaking up through his chest, his neck, his face, until they reached his eyes.

I gently lift her heavy, dark hair, piling it atop her head so I can reach the nape. The cloth falls from my hand, splashing back into the basin. There, right at the base of her skull, hidden by her hairline, is a mark. I blink, thinking it’s a bruise. A contusion from the blow she took. But it’s too defined. The lines are too sharp. I stepped closer. “What is that?” I demanded. The doctor barely glanced at it. “Subdermal hemorrhaging. Possibly a vascular reaction to trauma.” “It was not there,” I said sharply. He leaned closer this time, frowning. One of the nurses angled a brighter light toward her arm. The dark marking reacted, It shifted. Spreading slightly higher.

"Check your chest. Now." My hand flew to my sternum before I was even fully awake. I sucked in a breath. It rattled like a bag of dry gravel. The brand—the jagged 'X'—didn't just glow anymore. The skin around it had turned a sick, necrotic purple. Black veins branched out from the center, crawling toward my collarbone like ink dropped in water. It pulsed. A low, wet throb that made my vision swim with static.

Slowly, I tilt my head, my eyes focusing on the strange, beautiful pattern now etched into my skin. It’s not just a faint bruise anymore; it’s something more. The mark has grown bolder, its fiery pattern glowing against my skin. Tendrils of flame, rich and molten gold, curl and intertwine, creating an intricate design that seems to pulse with its own light. If it is what I think it is, then the puncture would have black veins running from it, by now. The black veins would be as tiny as threads for a needle and not as visible as normal black veins should be. Because this is the early stages." She explained. " What do you think this is?" " I think it's a blood enchantment."
