As soon as he thought he was out of their line of sight, the second bullet struck its target, and a blazing searing pain erupted in his side. The energy and the momentum of Damien's full-throttle run kept him moving forward over the top of the hill even though his left lung immediately filled with blood and he could not breathe. His lungs immediately began to bleed. As he continued to run toward the trees while battling to keep upright, the blood in his lungs burst out of his nose. As he passed the first pine tree, another shot rang out, and the bark erupted in his face, blinding his right eye. He had absolutely no breath left, so instead of yelling out in agony, he continued running.

They begin to ask Lily questions, but she can’t answer, and when she tries, she begins coughing uncontrollably. I tell them what we know, and I carry Lily back to a room where we can get x-rays of her lungs. I make sure they keep her sitting up, so she doesn’t feel like she’s drowning in silver. Her breathing is labored, and I can tell the lack of oxygen is affecting her. When the doctor comes back in, he doesn’t have good news. He puts her x-rays up on the screen and shows me that there is indeed silver in her right lung, making it practically unusable.

He fell on his stomach, one arm under him, the other by his side, next to his head. If it weren't for the blood, and the bluish colour around his lips, I could convince myself that he was merely sleeping. I gripped his shoulder with both hands and flipped him onto his back. All I saw was red. He was coated in blood. It flowed from his mouth and the wound in his chest in a thick, sticky stream. I heard the soft pit-pat of his heart, his ragged, uneven breathing. The air smelled like copper and approaching death. No time. I had no time.

It was just a slight cut but it was enough for it to bleed. Her head snapped back up and the red glow was back. I shook my head, horror in my eyes as she lunged towards me, her fangs pure white as it sunk into my palm. My eyes rolled to the back of my head as she fed from me until suddenly she wasn’t. “Are you okay?” I looked up, my blurred eyes taking in Logan and his twenty brothers. Through my hazy vision, I noticed that his skin was bright red and a weird smell oozed from him… like burning flesh.

With my hands and legs tied, it was hard for me to navigate and I began to feel my lungs fill with water. The harder I tried to keep myself afloat, the more I felt the water filling my lungs. It was getting harder to breathe, and the more I tried to close my nose, the more I got breathless and opened my mouth. With my mouth open, water easily flowed into my mouth, and I was filling up fast. Tears pricked my eyes, as I felt my lungs go hot.

Maeve lunged to grab it, but a bodyguard shoved her back with a kick. "Don't listen to her! She's just using her money to frame me. It's not hard to fake a video!" she cried. Freddie wasn't swayed and watched carefully. The footage clearly showed Maeve getting out by a small convenience stand and buying a bottle of water while wearing that dress, sunglasses, and a mask. A long-time smoker, she took off the mask when she lit a cigarette, and the shop's security camera caught her face. My heart finally dropped from my throat.

They were pumping clear fluid into his left arm while his actual life was leaking out of the right side of his shirt, soaking through the white linen pads the second medic was pressing down on with both hands. The blood didn't stop. It just kept finding ways through the cracks in their fingers, dripping down onto the pristine white carpet in heavy, steady drops that felt like a countdown clock ticking away his seconds. "Adrian..." My voice was barely a whisper, a tiny, useless sound that was completely swallowed by the frantic chaos of the room.
