Tina sneered at me. "What did you pour on me?" I dared to ask as I stared angrily at her with tears in the corner of my eyes. "Aww...dear Anastasia do you wanna very much already,I can help you find your mommy if you want." Tina made fun of my state. I wanted to say something or at least attack her but the person behind them made me say nothing. It was Dennis, my classmate who is also a bully and also one of her fanboys. I know high school was messed up.

I grab the keys to my jeep and head uptown, not knowing exactly what I’m going to say except that the bullying needs to stop, now that Ella is mine. The coffee shop is busy for this time of day, but since it’s winter break, the high schoolers are all hanging out instead of being home. I’m sure parents love this time of year, when their already hormonal teenagers are hyped up on caffeine by the time they return home from a long work day. I spot Kaylee and her posse in a corner booth, so I redirect myself over to her. I’m glad to see that her friend Callie is with her, since it was her account that the video originated from.

The blonde-haired little girl of about ten years of age whines as she hugs me tightly. "You are so pretty. Now, I know why I look this beautiful. I look like you," The other one that is about seven years says as she rests her head on my big baby bump, and I just hold my mouth open in shock, not knowing how to react to this. You won't blame me, right? It's too sudden, honestly. "Uhm... Thank you," I smile at them uncomfortably, trying to look natural. I don't want them to think I don't like them. I'm just shocked by their warm welcome when I was expecting the otherwise.

Suddenly, a girl came over and asked, "hey, girl. Wanna join girls’ night?" "What the fuck?" I blurted out. I heard a notification sound from my phone. Curious, I checked it to see that it was from the school group. Upon opening the message, my heart sank as I saw a video of me naked with Steve. Steve's face was blurred out, and only my face was visible. It was a recording of me moaning, and the sound was blaring through the cafeteria. I felt so embarrassed and humiliated as I watched everyone burst into laughter at my expense.

“You said you had a big stuffed bunny in your room, right? I love bunnies. They are my favorite animals. Would you mind if I tagged along to see it?” “I have 17 stuffed bunnies,” she told me proudly. “If you see one you like, you can have it. Come on! There’s a lot of clothes for Becky to try on!” I stood up, smiling around at the other adults as I discreetly squeezed Becky’s hand. “Thank you! I’ll come find you when I’m done.”

As the teacher droned from the podium I tried to focus but Kael's energy buzzed in my mind like static noise. And then… They were calling for volunteers. “For the upcoming Unity Games,” Mr. Rayburn drawled, “we’ll be matching students from both classes for the event preparation. This year’s theme is—”

One fainting spell followed another as I toiled, but Mom still whipped me. "Stupid, lazy brat!" she spat. "You can lie in bed and enjoy life like your sister does after you become a rabbit-woman!" Half a month later, Rebecca was expecting bloodstones. Mom was beyond thrilled, but even more men filed into Rebecca's room than before. "Well done, Rebecca!" Mom then turned to look at me, and her tone took on a rare, soft edge. "You're 16 now, Everly. Let me give you a coming-of-age present!"

"You won't need to go to school anymore. You can just stay home and be your sister's maid. Take good care of her." "Okay." I nodded obediently, playing along. As we talked, Luna started selecting the first batch of bunny girls for tonight. She glanced at the fading red hives still covering my skin and looked away in disgust. She pointed at Drew and a few other girls. "You girls, come with me." Before leaving, Drew turned back and shot me a smug look. "Be a good little sister and wait for the good news." My chest tightened. Poor Drew had no idea what she was walking into.

Older kids and teens gravitated to this area. Reese always went for the couch. It was neither formal, nor informal. It didn't beg for you to lay down and tell Bunny why you think your mother never hugged you enough. But it was comfortable and on more than one occasion, she had taken a nap. "I mean this with all the love in my heart, you look like shit." Bunny said sitting down in the adjacent chair. The scruff on his face indicated that he had not shaved in a few days. If he had slept, it had not been very good sleep.
