CHAPTER 21 Hunt’s POV Ally’s voice rang clear through the hall as she read the blood-stained cloth. “The only way to rid the pack of the rose plague pandemic is through witch fire. There’s no time for me to help. Once you get this note, start a fire. Burn this cloth with my blood in the flames and heat fresh water over that fire until it boils. Then add sorrel and sage. Every infected person, and anyone who has touched them must bathe in it.”

She struggled slightly to get in and looked up at me somewhat embarrassed. “Short people problems”, she laughed shyly and shrugged her shoulders The moment she got in I got hit with the most intoxicating smell. It smelled like cinnamon and sugar mixed with something floral that I couldn’t quite recognize. Ajax started pacing in my head practically salivating over this girl we didn’t even know, who wasn’t even a werewolf, but a witch! What was his deal? “So Sierra, is it? Your dad tells me you’re in your senior year! That’s exciting”, my dad said breaking me from my own thoughts.

Making my back arch until my shoulders flattened against the table. Next to me the tipped candle caught the cloth afire. Blooming into an orange flame as he entered me. It spread wildly and I tossed my head to look at it. Panting nervously. “Don’t worry about that.” He waved a dismissive hand and the fire doused as if a bucket had been thrown on it. The black hole in the tablecloth smoking haplessly. Warlock magic. I yelped and clawed at the tablecloth. He growled low in his throat and stroked deeply into me. Withdrawing until only the heavy tip lingered inside. Then he eased back in. Embedding deeply again and making me gasp from the foreign feeling of being pushed open.

But before she gets the chance to respond, the witch suddenly slides her finger along the trigger, cocking her wrist so it’s angled towards all three of my allies. “You took too long,” the witch says impassively. A slow, sadistic smile spreads along her face. “Wait, please, we’ll–” Gamma Everly begins. “Oh, shut up,” the witch snarls. She pulls the trigger of the spray bottle, and a fine silver mist settles over Gamma Everly, Alpha Leo, and Wilson.

“And the dragon?” My throat closed at the thought of its eyes—black, ringed with fire-red pupils, eyes that reminded me too much of her. “I don’t know,” I whispered. “Maybe it was her doing. Maybe she conjured it. We can’t know what kind of power a witch still carries—not when we thought they were all gone.”

It wasn’t much, but at least caught her off guard enough that Gail could back up and look for something else to use as a weapon. A burst of magic hit her. Gail cried out as a burning electric sensation tore through her. “You can’t stop us,” the witch said, laughing. “I will drain you if I want… not that it will be much of a boost.” “Go to hell,” Gail snapped at him and looked around again for something to use when she saw Bruiser’s leash. She ran to where she’d dropped it. Again, the witch laughed as she swung in a circle at her side. “What do you think you’re going to do with that?”

I obeyed, staying very calm. Michelle stood behind me, keeping her hand on my shoulder. “You're doing good,” she whispered. “Just breathe.” The witch knelt in front of me and opened a small jar of crushed herbs. She sprinkled them into the fire, and it let out a puff of blue smoke. I coughed, and the witch grinned. “This will sting,” she warned, holding up a glass dropper filled with a glowing blue liquid. She let a single drop fall onto my forehead. It burned.

Sabrina grunted, her golden shield flickering under the relentless assault. I lunged forward, slamming the dagger into the orb. A high-pitched scream filled the room as the orb cracked, releasing a shockwave that sent the witch and her creatures reeling. She staggered, her power faltering as Sabrina seized the moment. With a fierce cry, she unleashed a concentrated blast of light that struck the witch head-on. The witch collapsed to her knees, her dark magic fading as Sabrina advanced, her breathing ragged but victorious. Together, we moved towards her with Sabrina binding her with some sort of invisible shackles.

Roland caught Amalia as she nearly fell. They struck together. Kaela unleashed a torrent of molten silver fire. It tore through the witch’s magic like glass through water—burning only the enemy, cleansing the loyal living and the fallen dead. Spells shattered midair. The witch screamed, her voice scraping every mind in the hall. “NO! I AM ETERNAL—” Kaela’s growl drowned her out. “Not anymore.” The flame wrapped the witch’s throat and pulled. Her head separated from her body in a burst of light.
