Aaron saw it and hesitated. “What—”
I raised my hand. The fire flowed forward, not as a weapon but as light, wrapping around him like silk. He struggled, roaring, trying to fight it off. His flames turned wild, snapping and twisting, but they couldn’t break through.
“You don’t understand!” he shouted. “If you win, everything ends! The flame dies!”
I stepped closer, the light growing brighter. “No, Aaron. The flame only dies when it forgets why it burns.”
