He had just learned from Marie that three days before I left, I wrote a letter to each person close to me.
He stared in disbelief, eyes swollen from crying, and said softly to my photo, "Bella, are you still mad about our argument? Is that why you didn't even leave me a letter?"
But I had. I really had. I left it beneath his pillow.
Maybe Audrey destroyed it.
Still, he stayed by my photo, talking to it late into the night. He didn't even hear Audrey calling him to make dinner.
Maybe the silence had festered too long and turned into resentment. After Bobby left, Audrey came to my photo holding a bottle of makeup remover and a lighter.
