I ask, looking up at him. “It just isn’t.” Cain says glancing at his brother. “Open something else.” He says after a few seconds. I grab the next box, carefully unwrapping it. It’s bigger than the first. Heavier too. Inside, is a book. I pull it out and look at them both. “It’s a book on our species. You clearly don’t know much about us, I thought it would be good for you to learn.” Aeron says and I give a wry smile.

The smell of old parchment, dried sage, and damp cellar immediately flooded the small cabin. Reaching inside, I pulled out a massive, leather-bound tome. The cover was cracked, unmarked, and held together by frayed iron hinges. I dropped it onto the wood with a heavy thud, followed by three smaller, equally ancient books. "Bro, this is giving major Salem witch trial vibes," Amberly muttered, stepping closer to inspect the pile. She poked the cover of the thickest book with her index finger. "Are we about to summon a demon? Because I feel like my life has enough drama right now."

It was a raw reality, stripped of all the layers I used to hide behind. ​I walked back inside the cabin. The interior was a masterpiece of necessity. It was a single room, centered around a stone hearth. There was no television, no computer, and certainly no internet. The only data in the house was a stack of physical books and a hand-drawn map of the surrounding terrain.

Jasper's heart was racing, he could have turned away from her but it was as if she's explaining what he has been curious about. "Ok Jasper, that cabin isn't a normal cabin, there's a book y'all shouldn't come across, you all should never read it, if you can get it before your friends, you all would be safe and never come back to the cabin, right now, the other ghosts wouldn't let you rest, especially my mother" she brushed a strand of her hair away.

I turned away from the window and faced the cabin’s interior, my eyes scanning across the simple but warm space. Kai had tried his utmost to make it comfortable for me. He had tossed a thick quilt over the bed. A kettle steaming gently over the fire. A battered bookshelf filled with old tomes and scrolls. My fingers itched to move, to do something. Anything to prevent me from sinking in dread. Drifting toward the shelves, I ran my hand gently over the spines. Most of the books were tales from before the Great Divide, wolf lore, and old pack records.

Chapter 13 The interior of the cabin was just like my mom said, a wide space with shelves for walls. There were books everywhere. Everywhere. Some were piled up on the floor since the shelves were fall-filled up. I looked at Ethan, drawing a breath at the heavenly look on his face. Ethan had always had an affinity for books and anything readable. He always amazed me with the way he could read in five different languages but he strained himself to speak just one. Ever since I’d known him, he had spent most of his spare time with his nose stuck in a book.

I still try to hear something, nothing follows, but my heart refuses to slow down. The cabin has four visible rooms - the main living area with the kitchen, and three small bedrooms. The cabin looks so small from outside , I don't know how it looks so big inside - again, it is magic. I proceed to do a thorough search of all the rooms, looking for potential escape routes or hiding places- I need to think ahead. The bedrooms all contain comfortable-looking beds with fresh bed sheets, small wardrobes and I am tempted to sleep in them.

"Through writing.] -- Mallory was led towards a small cabin deeper inside the underground forest. It looked abandoned, and as expected, it was dusty and dirty outside. The cabin contained the basic necessity for it to be called a comfortable home. A bed, a kitchen, a table and chairs, and a bookshelf. Mallory looked at the bookshelves, and one caught her attention. It was a notebook. Unlike others which were created beautifully, it was a notebook that looked like it had faced hardship in its whole life.

"What is that?" Caliban traced lazy patterns across my back form where he was laying on the bed. I was sitting up and had the story book in my hands. "A book I found while snooping through the cabin. It's a collection of Thanaten stories," I sighed and leaned back onto the bed into his arms. "Let me see it." He held out his hand and I have the book over. After flipping through the legible pages, the king gave me the book back. "It's a children's book. Common to find in every household. I'm not surprised they have one here."

The cabin seemed to be shrouded in secrets, and I was determined to uncover them. With a deep breath, I approached the cabin. The wooden door was closed, and I hesitated for a moment before reaching out and grasping the handle. It creaked open, revealing a dark interior that was illuminated only by the flickering of a single candle on a rickety table in the corner. The air inside was musty and thick, with a faint smell of smoke and herbs. The walls were lined with shelves that were crammed with books and jars of all shapes and sizes. The floorboards were uneven and creaked with every step I took.
