We need a family member to come collect them. Tristan listened, incredulous. "Are you people still not done with this act?" Callum glanced over with a sneer. "First, the police station; now, the forensic center. Selene's got quite the network." The staff member on the other end went quiet for a few seconds, their tone cooling. "If it's inconvenient for you to come in, you can start by looking at the photographs." Three photos arrived moments later. The first showed a white gown, bloated and warped from the seawater. The hem was stained with dark traces of blood, and the lace had rotted beyond recognition.

He was afraid, but he refused to show it. I squeezed his hand gently, letting him know I was aware of his fear. I didn’t blame him. This was unknown territory, a place where the sea itself could turn against us at any moment. Then, with steady resolve, I raised both hands. The response was immediate. The sea trembled, as if recognizing my command. Slowly, the waters split apart, opening a path before us. The ocean groaned as it pulled away, creating towering walls of water on either side. The passage was vast, wide enough for giants to walk through, but the sea still surrounded us, deep and endless. The sheer force of it was both breathtaking and terrifying.

“Yes, they’re sleeping.” Against my better judgement, I take the Blue-Eyed Man’s hand. The world spins again, but this time it’s like I’m on a ride. When it stops, evening light spills down on me and sand covers my toes. Warm, salty air blows in from over gorgeous aquamarine-colored ocean water. “What the hell?” I throw out my hands to steady myself. “The dizziness will pass in a moment.” There are a few people on the beach, but none seem to have noticed our sudden appearance. “Where are we?”

Her hair was whipping in the wind, her eyes glowing violet. She was laughing. A wild, terrified, exhilarating laugh. "We’re flying," she shouted. Tristan squeezed her hand. "Next stop," he yelled, "The Whispering Pass!" They turned the ship toward the mainland, a flying bomb aimed at the heart of the Empire. End of Chapter 20

Strong enough to reach her.” Ares stiffened. “Her?” I met his gaze, my own stormlight dimming. “The one beneath the sea.” Aria’s breath hitched. “The tremor’s coming from her?” “Yes.” “And she’s… calling us?” Ares’ voice was harsh, but the fear underneath wasn’t concealed well. “She’s calling something,” I said. “Exactly what depends on what the three of us do next.” Another tremor whispered across the stone this one subtle, soft, almost curious.
