Penny descended the staircase , her mink-trimmed shawl bouncing with each step. Her feet were tucked into plush slippers, and the scent of something outrageously expensive perfume wafted toward me before she even reached the bottom step. When her gaze landed on me, her doe-like eyes widened in startled fear, the corners of her mouth trembling. “Big sister…” she said softly. I said nothing, my eyes trailing over her perfectly polished appearance—manicured nails, flawless skin, and the kind of Jewelrys that screamed privilege.

That side of him was a mask, and it had slipped. My stomach twisted in knots, but I tried not to show it. I couldn't let him see the way his words still made me feel small. Our mothers possessed zero imagination, and now that is entirely your burden to untangle.” “The Pennys,” Queenie repeats softly. She stares at the floor. She stares at the ceiling. If anything, he looked skeptical. “Um, hi,” said Penny as she fluffed her orange beanie. "I've seen you before, haven't I?" Timothy asked, ignoring her greeting. Penny's poise remained intact as she extended her hand. "You have, Timothy. I'm Penelope Carter, but you can call me Penny." Timothy frowned. “Penelope...” “Undercover reporter,” Penny added. “And I’m here to help you guys.” Timothy looked over at me then, his frown deepening. "A reporter?”
