“I want you to stay with your aunts in the packhouse, Hazel. I have to save our pack and territory.” She nodded in silence, looking lost. I had no words to console her. We boarded our flight to Fort Smith, which was the only one available at such short notice. Hazel clung to me in a state of panic all throughout the journey.
