He laughs, but there’s no humour in it. “You think I want to fight it? You think I want to reject my Goddess blessed bond? No, but instead I’m chained to you, feeling all your sadness and rage, wanting to comfort you when I’d rather be dead.”
The words sting, but I don’t let it show. “If we keep fighting it,” I say, ignoring the ache in my chest, “it’s only going to make us weaker. The more we resist, the more it’s going to push back.”
