He stood up and walked over to the captain, who was still slumped against the wall, clutching his bruised throat.
Baraka crouched down, picking up the broken half of the combat knife from the water. He tossed it into the captain’s lap.
"Tell General Nyosi," Baraka said, his voice cold, steady, and entirely human, "that her leashes don't work on me. And if she sends another squad into the dark, I won't hold back the wolf next time."
The captain didn't answer. He just stared in absolute, trembling silence as the teenager stood up and turned away.
