He’s famous for torturing prisoners until they can no longer breathe.” The man chuckled before his head dropped on the table. I don’t know how to deal with pirates because they never sent me on a mission with them. But I know how to tame criminals.

"Loose cannon? Says the golden boy who hides behind daddy's name. Step up or get out of my way Ryder." Guys on the ice slowed down watching us. Coach blew the whistle but we ignored it. This had to look ugly. "You think you can talk to me like that?" I shouted pushing my chest into his. "I am the captain. I built this team. You are the new guy with a rap sheet longer than the season." Kade laughed right in my face that rough sound echoing. "Built this team? With what? Your perfect press conferences and your old man's dirty money? We all know the Ryders play dirty off the ice too."

“The rogue we managed to capture said something similar.” Sal's eyes went wide. “You guys captured a rogue? That's sick!” A moment of excitement crossed her gaze before she went serious and cleared her throat. “Okay so back to what I was saying, the rogues are essentially mercenaries sent here by someone from another pack. There was a man in charge of these mercenaries, he goes by the name Grog—” “Grog?” Kaiden said, looking pointedly at Bradford, who also had a similar look of surprise on his face.

“I’m not exactly a sports person.” “You will be after tonight. The energy is addictive. Hawthorne versus Westfield is always brutal—especially because of the captains. Brad Walker versus Sebastian Hale. Pure rivalry.” I raised an eyebrow. “Sebastian Hale?” “Captain of Westfield. Tall, insanely talented, and actually a decent guy from what I’ve heard not the cocky asshole type like Brad and his crew. The stands go wild whenever he’s on the ice. Total heartthrob material.” She winked. “You’ll see why.”

“Don’t like the hockey team we’re assigned to?” Yes. Yes. Yes. I didn’t like them. In fact, I wasn’t here for any other team other than the Holly Boys hockey team. The team James was the captain of. “I’m fine,” the words felt heavy. “It’s my first day, how could I possibly dislike a hockey team I know nothing about?” The words tasted like ash in my mouth. “They’re cool, I promise.” Her smile turned slutty, and honestly, I wasn’t ready to find out why she was smiling that way.

Just as I was about to unleash a commotion that broke loose in the hallway, Nick barged into the room followed closely by Cat who had her hand on her hips unimpressed by his presence. “Boss, sorry to barge in but we have a problem at the clubhouse”. Nick glared at Cat as she pushed past his shoulder. “Get out the pair of you” she growled. “It's okay Cat, by the sounds of things the Rogues have yet another drama, no doubt it’s because their Alpha is incapable of leading a pack”. Vivian yawned suddenly looking disinterested in what was occurring around her. “See you later Fiancee” I grinned “don’t forget to show Cat your ring”
