Chapter 9 Clara "So where is this place where the light shines darker?" I asked. "Shush, it's a surprise," he said. "Well I don't particularly like surprises," I told him. "What can I say, you'll have to love it as long as you are with me," he said. What a nut job! First he took me to a restaurant owned by a vampire, with some very tasty meals I must add. Then he confessed that human food tastes like paper to him, but still he ate it occasionally anyways, I mean who does that?!

RONN Twilight has never looked so inauspicious as it does now. The camp is quiet, the most quiet I've heard in years as I head for the one hut behind the plateau. It's all very absurd. That we would slink back in the face of those cursed wolves. We have the advantage. And it ought to be used.

They walked down a few flights of stairs and drove off. Eric had selected a classy restaurant downtown named Hotspot and had made the reservations earlier in the evening after he had spoken with Sandra. He loved the restaurant and he had visited it several times but this time it had a special meaning to him. He was taking the woman he has fallen in love with there. They had booked a table for two at the deck as he had requested and they had a view of a man made lake. It was beautiful.

And he seems to be forgetting we’re going to reject her in a few weeks on the full moon. We walk to the counter, and the stares from the handful of Crescent Lake wolves seated within the cafe itch my skin. I’m sure they find it odd, seeing me here with a female. But I ignore them and pay no attention to any of the other customers seated at the tables of various sizes and shapes. I have nothing to be ashamed of. I’m just here to have coffee and lunch with a friend. Who happens to be a female. And my mate. “I’ll take a snickerdoodle latte, the BLT with avocado, and two each of this week’s cookies,” I tell the girl at the counter, cutting off my thoughts. “What would you like?” I ask, turning t

He had a couple Starbuck’s cups. “Morning.” His voice sounded much more alluring without the constant thump of music drowning it out. He held out a cup with a smile. “You said this was your favorite last night.” I took the cup and took a sip. It was delicious. “That is my favorite. Thanks.” “Are you hungry?” I nodded. “There’s a waffle house across the street, if you want to go there.” I looked down at my clothes…or his shirt. “Do you mind if I take a shower first?”

"It's getting dark already? The sun just rose." Rhaenan offers a small smile. "It's the Twilight Court. The sun doesn't stick around for long. The only reason you saw the sun at all these last few weeks is because of summer and the midsummer. After a couple of days, it's really twilight. Not dark or bright." I see. We dismount from our horses in front of the cave entrance, and I adjust the bow slung tightly around my chest before following Rhaenan into the darkness. He grabs a torch from the corner of the cave, casting flickering shadows on the walls as we venture deeper into the unknown.

The movie on the television continued to play in the background, but Claire barely heard it. Her entire world felt like it was shifting under her feet again. Trust no one. The old woman’s words echoed in her mind as a cold chill crept over her. Meanwhile, downstairs, Mason was making his move. --- At that very moment, Mason leaned back in his car, his eyes fixed on the mansion’s grand entrance. The dark clouds above mirrored the storm brewing inside him. He would not act immediately— No, he would be patient. He would wait for the perfect moment to strike.

One moment at a time. It took us thirty minutes to do everything at Kaiser’s house. The twins were dressed to battle the shockingly cold weather today. We returned to pick Martha up once we were set. We had a slight delay because Kaiser wanted to make sure I ate. The fact that we were not talking about last night made me feel a little relaxed. I just don’t want to think about it. Today is the second day which is the... Twilight Ceremony. The ceremonial bonfire would be happening at six thirty PM. I’m excited to have something to look forward to. Life isn’t all about pain, and suffering. I am determined to not suffer for the rest of my life.

Elowen’s POV – Twilight Whispers That evening, as the last vestiges of daylight faded into the soft embrace of twilight, the academy’s grounds transformed into a quiet sanctuary. I found myself wandering along a secluded stone path leading to a hidden courtyard, a place that had once been filled with echoes of our past conflicts and now promised a fragile new beginning. The gentle hum of evening stirred in the air—a murmur of crickets, the soft rustle of leaves—and all around, the academy seemed to exhale, releasing the weight of the day.

The warmth of the place wrapped around me like a temporary shield, keeping the chill of the cemetery at bay. Hours slipped by without me noticing. The light outside dimmed from overcast gray to twilight purple, and by the time I finally pushed back my chair, the cafe was nearly empty, just me and the barista locking up behind me with a polite nod. I slid into the driver's seat, hands gripping the wheel, and that's when the thought hit me—not sudden, but building all day, like a wave I'd been watching from shore.
