THE TWILIGHT COURT Maerwynn’s POV The city emerged like something out of a dream. It clung to the mountains, glowing softly with an otherworldly light. The buildings looked like crystal, impossibly tall and delicate, and the towers shimmered as though spun from the night sky itself. The light wasn’t from the sun—not the kind I knew. This place lived in twilight, where day and night held hands, casting the city in a perpetual, silvery glow. Light veins carved into mountaintops, glowing against the midnight sky. There was beauty here, haunting and fragile.

--- Scene 2: At the Coffee Shop - Cryptic Predictions The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the soft murmur of conversation created a warm cocoon in the busy café. Hours bled together. At some point, the waitress refilled my cup wordlessly, maybe out of pity. At another point, a group of drunk college students stumbled in, loud and laughing, and stumbled back out ten minutes later. The sky beyond the windows slowly shifted from pitch black to the faintest, bruised blue. When the first hints of morning crept between the buildings, painting the diner interior in soft gray, my phone vibrated. I jolted upright. Unknown number. My pulse picked up.

“I didn’t mean to dampen the mood. I just want you to know… I’m not him.” I met his gaze, warmth pooling in my chest. “I know.” After dinner, we stepped back into the night. The cool air brushed against my skin, and Alf slipped his jacket over my shoulders without a word, his touch lingering for just a moment. The next part of the night felt like something out of a story. He drove us to South London, where we stopped at a lookout point. The city stretched out below us, a glittering sea of lights with the Thames cutting through like a ribbon of silver.

Vale’s head lifted, nostrils flaring, and he shrieked with laughter at the twins’ mock horror. That night, after Vale crashed—finally, for the first time in remembered history—Carolina sat with the twins on the rooftop and let herself drink. It loosened her grip on myth and memory, and for once she could say, “I am tired,” and not mean she was ready to die.

Emily sprinted, her breath hitching, but the beast gained speed, its paws thundering against the permafrost. A sleek, black-lacquered carriage pulled up alongside her. The windows were tinted glass, etched with the sigil of the Carter High-Blood. The window slid down. Ryan, her twin, lounged in the velvet interior. Beside him sat Lucas Montgomery, looking bored, his silver eyes tracking the frost on the trees. "Missed the bus again, Em?" Ryan smirked. He looked like a god in his Academy furs, his Essence-Aura glowing a healthy, arrogant gold.

Chapter 16 : in extremis. One of the search units deployed to find Skylar was getting dangerously close to the site of the abandoned factory, below which the Equalists had set up their hideaway. Skylar and Twilight were already outside. The passage they had taken to get there led discreetly out of the underground and no one had seen them exit. Twilight took a breath of fresh air and sighed. "Hah! That feels great doesn't it?" Skylar covered her forehead with her hand to protect herself from the sun. "It's true, it feels really good." Skylar replied.

The nearby base took its stock… but the second nearest store is… far away… and I have to pass through a conduit domain… no thanks. Twilight stands up and scouts the area. Since he was at a high place, Twilight quickly saw the path that he needed to take. Twilight packs up and he starts to follow the path downward. Knowing the area, Twilight quickly follows the road towards the grocery store. Using the many buildings and large objects, Twilight avoids the creatures of Etana. When he reaches the grocery store, Twilight sneaks in by entering the back door. It was dark. Third-person POV Seconds later, a body crashed through the office's window. "Oof, he fucked up," Youhei commented. "You hit the wrong woman, you pathetic piece of crap," Twilight said while coming out of the pack house and wiping the blood from her nose. "Come on and duel me if you're the so-called man you claim to be. I'll even level the playing field and not involve shifting or weapons. Unless you’re scared of facing little old me as I am."
