Cassandra let out a laugh, high-pitched and grating, and sauntered off, her wet shoes squeaking against the floor.
"Good girl," she called over her shoulder, her voice filled with mock approval.
I bit down hard on the inside of my cheek, tasting blood, as I forced myself to stay silent. I couldn't afford to fight back, not here, not now. But as I mopped up the soapy mess, each stroke of the cloth against the floor felt like a battle cry.
