“But I don’t understand, Cassian doesn’t even have the tattoo. I would’ve seen it.”
Without a word, Sterling unlocked his phone and handed it to me. On the screen was a picture of Cassian, shirtless, seated on a leather chair. The image zoomed in to his bare feet. Beneath them were twin tattoos: black spiders coiled in intricate patterns, the mark of the Pale Crest.
Sterling swiped to another image. The back of Cassian’s head, shaved shorter than usual, revealed a faint, concealed symbol hidden beneath the hairline.
My heart stuttered. I realized I’ve never seen his feet. He was always in socks, always careful, always controlled.
