A Cursed Celebration
I could not help but wonder if he had ever truly cared about Heidi and me.
Slowly, I got to my feet and walked to Heidi's closet. I opened the doors with trembling hands to reveal her neatly arranged clothes. I touched each item gently as if I could still feel Heidi's warmth, tears blurring my vision.
Then, I packed all of Heidi's belongings—her clothes, toys, books, everything she loved—into her suitcase. I was determined to take her home, away from this cold place.
As I dragged the heavy suitcase out of the room, I found Mandy alone in the living room, lounging on the couch and flipping through a magazine. She put it down when she saw me, a mocking smile playing on her lips.
