Catching Fire Haymitch Quarter Quell Chapter の小説・ストーリー

I added some logs and kindling, wanting a fire to warm up the cool interior. “The flue sticks.” Hazel kneeled beside me, reaching past me to tug on the duct. She winced, and tried to hide it from me. I struck a match, making sure the kindling caught, then stood, replacing the small screen. Bending down, I brought her to her feet, tugging her damp jacket off her shoulders, tossing it to the side. Wrapping my arms around her, I held her tight, the sense of relief saturating my body. She shivered, a long, low breath escaping her mouth. I cradled her head in my hands, dropping a kiss to her crown. She tilted her head back, the firelight dancing over her features, highlighting the delicate contou

I blasted light downward—BANG—and the child version dissolved into smoke. The battlefield shook violently. “Jump!” I yelled. Cullen and I dove off right before the memory exploded into pieces. We tumbled onto the next patch of the world. I fell to my knees. Cullen dropped beside me, gasping. He whispered, “Thank you.” “We’re not done,” I said. “We found the others.” We ran again. The storm got louder, crazier. Then— A scream. Fire. Ava. My chest dropped. A burning house memory slid downward like a sinking ship. Flames everywhere. Smoke. Heat.

The fire was choosing. "Let it finish," Kael said again. I stopped fighting it. Thirty seconds. Maybe forty. Long enough for the chamber to empty around us, long enough for the smoke to start rising toward the open roof. Then the fire pulled back. Not because I controlled it. It pulled back because it was finished with whatever it was doing, and it returned to my sternum and settled, and I was left standing in the ruined centre of the sacred moon temple with black scorch marks radiating from my feet in every direction.

I didn't let him hear me cry, but the hitch in my breathing gave me away. "I’ll get them to bring more," he muttered, sitting on the edge of the mattress. I didn't answer. The exhaustion was pulling me under again. I must have been out for an hour when the scent of smoke hit the air. Outside, a brush fire had started near the training rink. The guards scrambled to deal with it. Hayden slid out from the trunk of the car, his backpack tight against his shoulders. He moved like a shadow through the empty halls. The lodge was deserted. He bypassed the kitchens and headed straight for the stairs.

The thudding of his heart throbs against my paw, and then he roars as the illusion completely lifts and I gasp, feeling something inside of me intensify, and a scent that is familiar becomes stronger. A terrifying snarl from behind me sounds as the illusion begins to strengthen. I have to end this. Determination dances through me as I hear the word ‘MINE’ thunder in my head, and then I’m being torn away from Tray. No! I let out a growl of frustration. I have to end him! But just as I show my frustration, Quade throws me over his shoulder, not bothering that I have claws, and with his other hand, I turn just in time to see him grab hold of Tray and rip his head right off with his teeth.

I ducked into one of many hidden passages that I knew led straight to the square, and blindly made my way through the pitch black darkness with my precious mate balanced precariously over my shoulder. The smell of smoke followed us. It stank of dank earth, mould, and death. It tried to choke me, tried to make me a part of the many who had fallen here over the years. “Troy?” Quinn suddenly asked, her voice filled with confusion. “Yeah,” I answered. “What’s going on?” “Castle’s on fire. You saw it.” “I did? I can’t remember.” Now wasn’t the time for that conversation. As she gained more control over her abilities, she’d be able to remember her premonitions better, and she wouldn’t black out wh

The flames blazed on, intense and untamed, burning bright against the white landscape. I had no idea what else to do, but I kept piling snow onto her, desperate to quench the flames that seemed unstoppable. Finally, after a minute that felt like a lifetime, the fire sputtered out. Scarlett lay there, her body still and vulnerable. Her skin glowed faintly, as if some otherworldly energy had just released her, and after a few heartbeats, she began to stir, slowly coming back to herself.

My eyes fly open, and the surrounding things are burning. Miles breaks the kiss, but he doesn't look disturbed by the fire. "It reminds me of the old tale." His voice is low as he whispers against my lips. "The Hex Queen returns in fire, with four hearts to break the sky." He smiles, and I hear a bond snap into place.

The witches. Hezekiah. "We need to leave," she said. I nodded as she took me through the woods with several other associates—House members I didn't know. I heard the flames eat the Jubilee and turned around to see the juke joint slowly become engulfed in flames. I heard the screams and gritted my teeth; I didn't know if it was wrong or right, what Mama did. But I felt it in my chest when the fire grew. I felt Hezekiah's locket on my chest, too. **

Sapphire clinging to both May and Mia tightly. "I don't know," she said with wide eyes. "The men are still in there and Reuel is in the infirmary..." without hesitation I ran towards the burning packhouse. "El wait," Creed called after me. The smoke was thick, burning my eyes and making it hard to see. The fire looked like it had a mind of its own the way it crept up the walls. "Liam, Elias, Jordan, River, Hera," I called as I ran. "Greyson, Reuel, "Chann, Artemis." As I reached the center of the house. The staircase was utterly destroyed and the pillars on the ceiling began to fall around me, missing me by inches.
