The past had knocked. And this time, Jordan wasn’t running.

"Hunt well in the East." Lisa was too caught up in the rush to notice the shadow of pain in his eyes as she hurried toward the gate. It was only when she was gone that Jordan rolled up his trousers to find a jagged scrape where the wood had bitten into his skin. He cursed softly under his breath. What an absolute fool. High above in the departure lounge, Zephaniah and I had watched the entire exchange from the glass. "It looks like the big wolf caught his paw in a trap," Zephaniah joked, sipping his black coffee.

Jordan stood a few steps away from us, looking like my knight in all of his 3-piece-suit shining armor. He took a menacing step forward. “Move away from her." The men didn't look like they wanted to leave, but they didn't look eager to remain there either. They seemed to be weighing their options. “Who the hell are you?" One of them finally mustered the courage to ask. It happened suddenly. One second, Jordan stood on his side of the road, the next, he was covering the distance in two strides and picking up the man who was only slightly smoking than him by the collar. The other one took a few steps back.

He kicked the ball strongly towards the top left corner of the goal, Jordan jumping to counter the ball with the very tip of his fingers, before falling down to the ground. The ball went straight back to Nathan, who kicked it to the opposite corner of the goal, Jordan not getting up fast enough to stop it from crossing the line and hitting the net. Nathan smirked as he ran a hand through his damp hair, turning back just in time to catch both the twins jumping in his arms with loud yells falling from their large smiles. "YES CAPTAIN!" He rolled us down and I heard the sound of someone shooting. Jordan stood like a wall and took the bullet for me; this was why he rolled us in order to save me. I did things worse than expected and he without thinking jumped in to save me. A guy was shrouded in cover and tried to aim at me when I heard people firing, he chose to ran and I felt numbness all around my body as I saw Jordan in my arms. “Catch that bastard” I shouted in anger as tears dropped from my eyes, the pain was agonizing and everything appeared meaningless.

That would explain all the security. A few heartbeats drummed by before Dante came spilling through the door. A chuckle rumbled out of me when I spotted Jordan clutched in his hand like a toddler before being thrown onto the ground like a lump of the waist. The guards attempted to make a move against Dante, but he caught one by his throat and screamed something to his face before shoving him back so hard that he slammed into the other guard, and the duo went down flying. Jordan on the other hand was trying to figure out what the hell had happened, but he was so smashed he couldn't even stand straight.

His biggest regret was failing to get on John Robbert's trail. "I'm going to get some water," Ruby said, returning in less than a minute. Jay led Jordan to relax his nerves on the couch. The man gulped down a full glass of water. "He's crazy. That old man is really dangerous," Jordan said passionately, "why does everyone fall for his tricks so easily?" "Ruby, be strong." This time, Jordan spoke. "Not just when fighting them, but when facing disappointment," the man continued.

There’s no chance she’ll escape. Passing the fountain, I see the rogue’s tail waving as if to taunt me. I speed up and block her as the path narrows. But she doesn’t cooperate. Instead, she spins around and leaps on Jordan just as he rounds the other side of the fountain. Her claws are extended as she goes for his throat.

He yelled as what I just did seemed to make him lose his own balance too. Before I knew it, he was falling backwards. With Jordan still very much in his hold. My eyes widened but I didn’t stay like that. I rolled on the ground and snatched Jordan mid-fall with the instinctive full body movement of a mother who will break every bone in her body before she’d watch her child hit the ground. I hit the grass hard on the side with Jordan clutched to my chest. He cried even harder but I absorbed it, standing up and showering his forehead with kisses.
