Nathan’s grip on the photograph tightened slightly.
For a brief moment, his lips twitched into a faint, broken smile. “She’s my fiancée,” he murmured softly, almost to himself. “And I treated her worse than a stranger.”
Marcel’s chest tightened, but he said nothing.
Nathan leaned back slowly, closing his eyes for a moment as though steadying himself.
Then he exhaled and placed the photograph carefully on the desk, as though afraid it might shatter if handled carelessly.
