“She’s Zaira’s friend and Zia’s adoptive mom, Cath,” he said, voice steady. “If nothing else, I ought to care about her because of that.”
“Okay,” Catherine said, clearly unconvinced but choosing to let it go. “But don’t tell me to leave. If she can stay, why can’t I?”
