Minutes later, Ichabod could hear a swift movement behind the shelves and out came a short man in a black tail coat and a large hat which made him look like all those wizards you see in movies like Harry Potter. “Ah! The words died in my throat when I realized it wasn't one of my scouts. Adeline stood by the heavy oak doors, her hand still resting on the latch. She wasn't wearing her usual silk dresses. Instead, she was draped in a sheer, transparent robe that left absolutely nothing to the imagination. The firelight from the hearth licked at the curves of her body, casting long, honeyed shadows over skin that had been oiled to a shimmer. "What the hell are you doing in my office, Adeline?" I asked, my voice dropping into a dangerous, low register. “And in that?”

The next day at the Callahan house, a disheveled Adeline burst through the door, tears streaming down her face. Mrs. Luna had woken Anastasia from her sleep when she sensed that something was terribly wrong with Adeline. The staff at Callahan house recognised Adeline as Anastasia’s dear friend and so they offered her drinks when they saw that she was not looking well.

The three of them eat some more cake and pack the rest of it back for the others to enjoy. Since yesterday, Adeline had been feeling quite anxious and nervous. Among them were towering old men with only one eye, lanterns swaying on a single leg, malformed boys with just one limb each, women clad in white exuding a bone-chilling aura, and skeletal figures draped in human skin...
