Then he walked out. The doors slid shut behind him, and he was gone.
Noah didn’t move. Life swirled around him, ordinary, relentless, but he stood frozen, looking down at the puck, and turning it over in his hand. His thumb ran along its rough edge and memories flooded in. His first practice, his first goal, the locker room banter with Reid and Mason, the cold air filling his lungs, the sense of control, however fleeting.
