Sitting next to Chase Hudson is like being imprisoned. But then, she's happy to see him again. He is calm, cold headed and appears humble. This new him must definitely be because he is a single father now. Is his daughter's mother visiting? Has he always known that he has a daughter? The girl takes after him. The Hudson's usually have this resemblance between them. Chase was amused and he chuckled softly. This is it. She can't really say anything while he is around her. She could only hum and his daughter doesn't understand.

“Another victory for Harry and Viv.” Footsteps echo down the hallway, and Chase appears, black joggers hanging low on his hips, a fitted white vest clinging to his chest, his hair mussed like he’s just run a hand through it, and glasses perched carelessly on his nose. In one hand, he is holding a crystal glass of amber bourbon. In the other, a sleek black laptop and his phone. He looks way too relaxed for someone who had just nearly burned a corporation to the ground. He drops onto the couch beside me, the scent of warm bourbon and cedarwood wrapping around me.

I would never feel the warmth of his comforting hugs again. He would never meet his grandchild. Tears slipped down my cheeks and I dug in my purse for a handkerchief. Finding one, I pulled it out, then frowned down at the contents of my purse. A quick search confirmed that what I was looking for was not there anymore. The ultrasound picture was no longer in my purse.

Chelsea was already seated at our usual corner table, her eyes scanning the menu. "Hey," I greeted, sliding into the seat across from her.​ She looked up, a smile spreading across her face. "Hey yourself. You look like you haven't slept in days."​ I sighed, stirring the sugar into my coffee. "That's because I haven't. It's Jeff."​ Chelsea's expression shifted to one of concern. "What did he do now?"​ I recounted our conversation in the park, detailing his admission of regret and his desire to rekindle what we once had. Chelsea listened intently, her brow furrowing deeper with each word.​

I've been looking everywhere for you," Chase ran into the crowd and headed straight for the man with tears in his eyes. He hugged the man on the leg. The man was taken aback. What was going on? "If you don't want anything serious to happen, stop talking and go along with me," Chase quietly transmitted his voice when he saw that man not reacting.
