Chase in the Dark The Shadowwood pressed in, all gnarly and alive, branches twisting overhead till the moon barely got a shot at the ground. Lyra moved through all that gloom like she’d grown up in the dark, senses tuned up to eleven, chasing after that weird trail of corruption winding deeper into the trees. Something old, like, way older than Kael’s whole rebellion, was out there, lying in wait.

The flickering sparks danced across her smiling face, but in that glow, I suddenly saw Alyssa's silhouette from last year's Moon Goddess Festival. She was standing by the altar, setting off her own fireworks. "Matteo, this color is so beautiful." I snapped back to reality and blinked hard. "What's wrong? You don't look so good," Sabrina said, coming to stand in front of me. I shook my head with a frown, and Sabrina grabbed another firework and went to play by the shore alone. Why did Alyssa's shadow keep haunting my mind? I grew increasingly irritated. I sat on the rocks for a long time before finally pulling out my phone and opening Alyssa's chat window.

And that scent belonged to Cassandra. Why was it so strong? She definitely walked along the corridor this night. But the disarray of this place was unexplainable till I remembered the shadow that fleed at the sight of me...wait a moment, I didn't hear any sound of footsteps anymore and that made me realize that the shadow had been the owner of those footsteps. I got back up and the shadows were surrounding me and I couldn't see the witch anywhere and I used the wind element to force the shadows to move. They fought against it but I put more power behind it forcing them to move and they retreated. I wasn't scared of them anymore. And now I knew that I could fight the shadows as well. And now they knew that. I wasn't as weak as I was. But now they knew that I had training. I

But as I walked away visibly emotionless, I couldn’t shake the image of the woman in the scarf, sitting in the shadows, watching me like she already knew me. And I had no idea that she was about to change everything.

Her eyes glowed faint silver for a second. “Touch me again,” she whispered, voice layered with something dangerous, “and I’ll let my babies eat your hearts.” They scrambled away, sobbing. Aria stood in the alley, breathing hard, hands trembling. She looked down at her belly. “Mommy’s learning,” she murmured. “We’re going to be okay.” But that night, as she lay in bed tracing the stretch marks forming on her skin, a new scent drifted through the cracked window,faint, wolf, familiar. Shadowthorn. Someone was looking for her.

My breath came in sharp, shallow bursts as I stared at Marcus's lifeless body, the pool of blood around him spreading like ink on a parchment. I hadn't done this. I couldn’t have done this. Could I?
