There looked to be lighting coming from the center where the trunk of the tree should be. I stepped forward and moved a flower branch to the side so I could walk under the tree. By the time March rolled around, winter had finally released its death grip. Meltwater seeped through the cobbled gutters around campus, and tufts of green grass pushed through the cracked stone borders of the dormitory walkways. Branches that had been brittle with frost now sagged with early blossoms, and the smell of wet soil hung on everything. Magic always came first. Spring didn’t creep in, it rushed.
