She stepped through the fog like she owned it, her gown trailing behind her like a dark river, her crown of thorns gleaming faintly in the moonlight.
Her eyes locked on mine, and everything else disappeared. Everything else seemed to still down. Everything seemed to die out. No voices, no air, nothing. It was just us.
I froze, my claws curling at my sides, my breath caught halfway in my throat.
Damon growled low and stepped in front of me instinctively, but I touched his arm. This was not something for him to stop me from doing. I did not want him to stop me from this. I did not want him to prevent me from taking a chance that I knew I would never get again.
