Chapter 32: Nobody’s Alpha Mink’s P.O.V I closed my eyes, getting lost in the kiss that sent fire through my veins. A whirlwind of emotions churned within me because I had convinced myself that leaving him behind was the right decision, for the both of us. But now, with him standing in front of me, with his lips on mine as he pulled me closer to his body, I couldn't deny the undeniable pull of the mating bond between us. It surged through me, a force that I couldn't resist no matter how hard I tried.

“Then consider it done. We will accept you into the pack tonight after the ceremony.” “Thank you, Alpha,” she says with a big smile. “There’s another reason I want to transfer though,” she says, and her eyes change color from brown to aquamarine. “You’re chosen!” Alpha Pollux says, his eyes changing as well. Four others in the room also get excited and show that they’re chosen as well. “Incredible,” Alpha Peter says. “You’re the first Omega I’ve met that is chosen. Most of the chosen I’ve met have been ranked a warrior or higher. But then to also have all of you here? Incredible.”

And we were two, Veronica was only one. “It’s over” I whispered to her, opening my eyes and in that moment, my fingertips burst into scorching flames which I struck through her heart, grasping the darkness by its horns. Veronica let out a screech but I pushed her back, leveraging my new found abilities over hers. “You don’t hurt my family. It happened once, but Veronica, never again.”

Instead it had become something complicated. A slow breath moved in and out through my nose. My hand lifted the bottle of syrup and poured it over the pancakes. The golden liquid spread across them slowly. Chocolate-chip pancakes and tension in the room. Jax was not playing fair. The smug expression on Theron’s face snapped me out of my drifting thoughts. If he wanted to play games, that worked for me too. My fork pierced several pieces of pancake. Slowly they rose toward my mouth. Both men watched every movement.

Her words were a challenge, daring me to take control. Vera’s touch on my shoulder was lighter, her voice softer but no less firm. “If you hide, they’ll shape the story without you. If you stand, you choose what it means.” Her eyes held mine, steady, urging me to claim the narrative. Nylo pressed his head against my leg, his thoughts curling sharp and clear. Choice is thin. But choice is still yours. His presence was a quiet strength, a reminder that even in a trap, there was a path forward.

For me, each word on the diary was a shard of ice dipped in wolfsbane venom, aimed straight for his core. "Shawn, let me ask you a question. “The past behind you and everything ahead?” I nodded, letting a peaceful smile curve my lips. “Yes, I feel it. I finally understand what mattered all along.” I stepped back, looking around one last time. The sunlight caught the edges of the fabrics, and I felt every choice, every struggle, every loss, and every victory settle gently into me. “He chose my cousin,” I whispered to myself, letting the words land. “I chose revenge. But what I kept, what I carried forward, was far greater. I chose myself.”

“But I’ll destroy you first.” My hand plunged forward.. it glowed and burned. She gasped, choking on her own breath as my fingers closed around her heart. It beat once, twice… then stilled. I tore it out. The light burst from her chest, searing a storm of shadow and fire that shook the entire hall. Veronica screamed one last time, her body disintegrating into ash, her voice echoing through the void.. “You think this ends with me? Oh, my dear Lunarborn… this is only the beginning…”

The fire flickers low, shadows dancing along the walls like specters. She presses her hand flat against her thigh, willing the tremor to stop. Veronica’s offer is tempting.
