When his head snapped back up, he trembled, his bones trying to break free from his flesh. My eyes broke free from the sight when Aleskander came closer. “Want to spend all night staring at Viktor?” he asked, his voice cool and neutral. There was no hint of rage in them. Just plain ol’ Aleskander. I didn't answer him. Instead, my mind did a recap on the file containing the Seven Deadly Sins. Then my mouth widened, realization settling in. “He's Viktor Von Stein? The Sin of Gluttony?” I murmured under my breath.

Peter sounded almost detached. “She is my mate. Nothing else has been on my mind.” I spat back upset at the insult. Veronica POV I sat in the chair with a massive old text on the desk. The book was 6 inches thick closed. I was about halfway through with no luck finding anything referencing fallen angels. Most of the books were written in German from the 1300s. I had a hard time deciphering; Theo was helping with ease. His experience with all the different languages was a talent I was overly jealous of.

"No! I didn't think. I didn't know it'd get you." Veronica was bawling, wadding up the comforter to try to clear the blood, which was gushing like a champagne bottle after the NBA finals. Chloe finally found her strength and, surprisingly, her wits and grabbing her clothes off the floor quickly, she fled out the door before Veronica could take notice. She had counted off 5 shots, which meant there was still a live round in that revolver, and it was still in Veronica's grip for some crazed reason.

Lia called over two maids and instructed them to find a room for Veronica. “I knew you'd let me in!” Veronica grinned, arrogantly rolling her eyes at Lia. “I bet you must have realized how much Alpha Draven likes me.” Lia gave her a cold look and walked away. “Come with me, Mia! I need you to draw me that bath.” Veronica grabbed my wrist. We followed the two maids upstairs. On our way, Veronica whispered to me, “Do you find out what will happen on the first round of selection?”

Her eyes immediately landed on Seth. Then me. And her smile faltered slightly. I get this feeling she doesn't like me for some odd reason. "Well," she says sweetly while sliding beside Seth. "Nobody told me this was a group thing." Jessica visibly rolled her eyes. Seth does react,his eyes are still on his phone. "You said you were busy." "I changed my mind." I suddenly became very interested in my milkshake. Vera’s gaze drifted toward me again. "You're Jolene, right? Jessica's little friend. Heard you made the team. Congratulations"

Haley Veronica didn’t come alone this time. Haley sensed it before she saw it—the shift in the air, the way the guards stood straighter, the way the magic in the room tightened like a drawn wire. Her wrists burned inside the cuffs, silver biting deeper as her wolf stirred weakly in warning. Veronica stepped into the torchlight, expression serene. “You’re going to make a choice today,” she said lightly, as if announcing the weather. Haley swallowed. Her throat was raw. “Go to hell.”

It wasn’t helping. She was neither dead nor threw up. She didn’t even shake or spasm. Not this time. This time when she drank from the vial, she wanted more. The fluid danced across her tongue in a harmony of sentiments she couldn’t get enough of. She looked down into the empty vial, amazed that she had drunk it so fast, and threw it away, slowly the blood on her throat was doing its magic. Giving her fuel enough to fight for the incoming monsters that seemed to appear from nowhere.

As he moved away from the front, I took a deep breath just as the chief's voice echoed across the open field. "Let the choosing begin!" the sound of cheers came from behind us, as many of the girls eagerly made their way towards that forest. With each step I took closer to the darkness that awaited me, I couldn't help but feel almost lighter.

When Lucinda threatened to kill both of us and began lowering us toward our deaths, Bella suddenly screamed, "I will choose!" "Good," Lucinda said with a wicked grin. "Now choose." Bella’s eyes found mine. She tried to look strong, but it was clear she was falling apart. A single tear rolled down her cheek. Then she turned to Aaron. She looked at him briefly, shut her eyes, and whispered, "I choose Aaron." Even though that’s what I had wanted, my heart sank. Tears burned my eyes, but I held them back as I looked at her.
