“Its frosting eyes followed me.” A group of warriors nodded sympathetically as if this was a valid reason to distrust baked goods. I lifted my chin. “I do not hate your holiday. I simply do not understand why this realm is obsessed with worshipping trees and sugar toys. It is strange.” One wolf gasped. “Christmas is not worship.” “Then why is there a giant glowing tree in the center of the packhouse,” I asked. “With jewelry on it. And a large golden symbol sitting like a crown on top.”

Elara POV Vexx had outdone himself this time. As soon as we were within sight of the warehouse, we were descended upon by trolls, or ogres maybe? Whatever, all I knew is they were huge, smelly, and a product of wicked magic. It took three of us to take down one of these monstrous things. Luckily, we’d only sent one of our magic workers inside with the rescue team—or bait team, depending on how you looked at it. Claire, Grey, and I felled one of these club swinging trolls together by hitting him hard with spells on all sides. No sooner did we finish with him, then another one climbed from a crevice in the earth and roared, brandishing its studded weapon at us.

I wouldn't be taken captive! "You'll regret this." Furious anger roared through me. I felt Snow's fury as well, fueling me on. I yanked my arms together, using the trolls' strength against them, and flipped over, so I faced them. Flapping my wings, I used my magic to make my wings pointy, like swords, jamming them in the eyes as I stepped forward. In unison, they screamed out in pain, lessening their grip on my arms. I slapped my hands together, knocking the disoriented trolls into each other. They crumbled to the ground. I stomped down, crushing their oversized heads into a dark, pulpy puddle.

Audrey dropped her backpack bringing a bottle out of it. "What's that?" Ian asked "You're a wolf you should be able to know what this is." Audrey answered nonchalantly bringing out a few other bottles "Is that gas?" "Enough stalling. Hey big guy? Water?" Audrey yelled Audrey said throwing the bottles at the troll, angry the troll dashed towards Audrey with full speed Chanting and she lit the troll on fire "Ah..." It screamed Audrey made the fire more intense by chanting another spell. Making the troll disintegrate.

In the gully below are trolls, actual trolls. “Queen bring friend,” a huge troll says. “Hi, Shengis! Yes, this is my friend, Hope. Hope, this is Shengis. He’s kind of the leader of the trolls.” “Friend of Queen is friend of Shengis,” he says. “Thank you. It’s nice to meet you,” I say. I’m introduced to several other trolls, including Shengis’ mate, son, and several other trolls. When we’re done, we say goodbye and cross to the other side on a bridge that looks like a huge, fallen tree.

Stella’s POV We run towards the edge of town towards the fire. I see my rune symbols and stop. I know they were unable to get past them. Then I see them. Four witches and a Warlock walk towards us. One of the witches says a spell to extinguish the fire. The smoke starts to disappear into the air.

Lowering myself to her level, I held her shoulders gently and brushed a strand of hair from her face. “No,” I said softly. “No, honey. You just had a nightmare. That’s all.” She didn’t look convinced. “Mummy has no reason to hurt Daddy,” I added quickly. “I’ll be back soon. And guess what? We’re spending Christmas here with Grandma and Uncle Elliot.” Her face lit up instantly. “Yeah.” “I’m just going to get a few things for Christmas,” I said. “I’ll be back.” I turned away before she could ask anything else.
