Everyone focused on Grandpa, who had a picture book in his hand. I chewed on my moon while I waited for the story. I wasn’t the only one with a new toy in their hands. We all got a toy at the event. Aragon had his wolf that Lando got him. Caspian had a stuffed reindeer. And Amaryllis had a soft dolly dressed in a red holiday princess dress. “‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.” Grandpa began the story by holding the book to show us the pictures.

Just a mere second behind her, Jason tackled the next goblin he came to. As Jason tore apart the goblin underneath him, a troll with a long sword came to rid himself of the wolf annoyance. When he raised his blade to slice into Gretchen, the enraged yawp of Eason echoed through the clearing as he met the troll’s blade above her when he blocked the approaching deathblow with his sword. Eason went toe to toe with the much larger troll as the wolves continued to tear into the smaller goblins. As the aggressing horde's attention was shifted to the three pesky attackers to the right, Teddy appeared from behind the tree. He walked slowly towards the crowd of marauders as the arrows bounced off him

The room got very quiet. "You got her a present?" Catherine asked, amused. "She's staying in my house for Christmas. Of course I got her a present." I unwrapped it carefully. Inside was a wooden bookmark, smooth and perfect, with my name carved in beautiful script along one edge. My breath caught. This was the one Sophie had seen weeks ago. The one he'd been making in secret. "It's beautiful," I whispered. "He's been working on that forever," Sophie said. "I knew it was for someone. I just didn't know it was you."

Then I saw a title that made me stop. FIRST WITCH I pulled the book from the shelf. The moment I touched it, warmth spread through my fingers. Knox stepped closer. “What is it?” “I don’t know.” I opened it. The first page immediately began glowing. Then the words appeared. Before the wolves had a world of their own, there was only one world. I turned the page and images appeared, a world unlike anything I’d ever imagined. Dragons flew through the sky and giants walked across mountains. Witches practiced magic and fairies and trolls lived among the flowers even demons moved through dark lands.

Sometimes he didn’t come home for days. Only when Christmas arrived three weeks later, so did Rolf. He looked exhausted, and immediately went to the bathroom to wash off; ignoring the white Christmas tree sprung up in the living room, protecting the multitudes of colourful presents underneath. The tree ornaments even had our names written into baubles that joined the rest of the family's. Stripes was up there too, but he had no gifts. At least there was some sort of memory of him here that wasn't locked away in a cupboard downstairs.

“No, I don't believe in such things.” “The man we were supposed to meet for you couldn't come because his cat got into an accident, so tomorrow we will know if you meeting Mr stranger was fate or,” Clover took one bottle of alcohol from the bag, “Thanks, Goodnight,” she said and walked away to her room. I didn't know what tomorrow held, Zade and everyone we grew up with were going to be around for Christmas. How do I face the fact that Zade and I broke up? It looked like one of the pages had fallen out of the book and when I turned it around, I saw a map on the other side. I opened the book to see where the page had come from, and gasped. There was a complete map of the troll lands. It showed where their village was and even where their mine was. I quickly started to read the pages that had turned yellow with age. The history went back centuries and my eyes grew wider the more I read. The trolls did have mines, but the book made it clear they never found anything in them.

Which of the hundred books would tell me what I needed to know? I pulled out a book that read ’trolls and termites’ It was basically a gag book about how werewolves viewed trolls, how they were dirty, nasty, and not very friendly. If you had ever come across one, chances were you wouldn't leave in a good mood. I placed it back on the shelf and continued walking around. I saw a book with a golden tail on the top shelf. I got up on my toes and reached for it but the tips of my fingers only scraped it.
