He instinctively stepped in front of Piper, watching me warily. He was afraid those remarks would upset me enough to lash out at her again, as I had the last time. The sixth pair of bridal shoes had been too small. No matter how hard I tried, I could not squeeze my feet into them. When Piper saw sweat beading on my forehead, she said I was so unlucky that even Pine Hollow's ancestors refused to let me marry Cole. Furious, I pulled off one of the shoes and threw it at her. Cole picked it up and hurled it straight back at me.

The other heel followed, she slipped it off and handed it over without breaking eye contact. Arden accepted it without hesitation, both shoes dangling loosely from his fingers. Then he pushed the door open, stepped out, and offered her his free hand. “Cinderella,” he teased softly, “your chariot has arrived.” She rolled her eyes, but her cheeks warmed as she slipped her hand into his. Arden dangled her heel between two fingers like it was some kind of prize. “Cinderella, I think you dropped this.” Cassie snorted. “More like Evil Stepsister, and if you scratch it, I’m sending you the bill.”

He stared at her hands and noticed it had a red mark from his grip. “Shit! I just hurt her” he thought inwardly. Hannah turned to her kids at once, she thought she had asked them to go to their room, this means only one thing, they didn’t go to their room and they had been hiding at the staircase all this while. “Mommy, are you hurt? Are you alright?” Allison asked in her tiny voice. “I'll go get the ointment from the kitchen,” Addison said. This time everyone in the room was now staring at Cinderella and her Beautiful Octuplets.

She felt a little guilty about not purchasing from her workplace, but the shoes had been too perfect to pass up. She slid them on, feeling a little bit like Cinderella putting on a glass slipper. She needed to complete the transformation, though. Kat took her hair out of the ponytail, shaking the long dark tresses free before taking off the cardigan and stuffing it in her bag. If she got cold, she’d just have to dance to warm up. She felt like a new, better version of herself. This was how she saw herself and she was going to show everyone else this fun and carefree side of her.

She fell to the ground, scrambling to get back up. She seemed ready to strike again, but after glaring at me for a moment, she suddenly started laughing. "Well, I guess there's no point in arguing with someone like you, who can't even keep her own husband," she sneered. "If you know you can't compete with me, you should step aside and know your place. The person who isn't loved is considered the third wheel!" I smiled faintly.
